Call of Duty: Black Ops 6's Season 1 maps could be just what the game needs
Season one of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 will launch on November 14, kicking off the title's battle pass content, which provides BO6 weapons and movement to War zoneand even introduces a brand new Zombies map. In addition to this, some new party game modes are expected to be released in season one, with three new core multiplayer maps already the center of attention.
One of these maps is Extraction, an unusually open experience in a coastal helicopter. In addition to its ambitious open spaces that will be perfect for long-range combat, it seems that Extraction still has a lot of verticality in its scattered buildings that encourage close combat that Black Ops 6 has already become known for. It is confirmed that Extraction is set within Black Ops 6s fictional city-state of Avalon, meaning the location may even be a POI on the large-scale Avalon map rumored to be coming to War zone in the near future.
Black Ops 6's Season 1 Maps Continue the small map trend
Next, call of Duty: Black Ops 6 will introduce the Heirloom map in season one, which also takes place in Avalon. In contrast to Extraction's open space, Heirloom is set in the winding corridors of an art gallery, offering intense, up-close engagements that will be more suited to Black Ops 6s shotguns and newly polished SMGs. While some exhibits and halls may offer strong angles for more powerful ranged weapons, it appears that Heirloom may be one of Black Ops 6s most chaotic maps to date.
Finally, season one of Black Ops 6 will also see the addition of the Hideout map. Hideout is another smaller experience in BO6s map pool, which takes place in and around a makeshift base of operations in an abandoned compound of buildings. Looks like Hideout is following suit Call of Dutys traditional three lane approach to maps, which makes it unique compared to the likes of Extraction and Heirloom, and offers a fair mix of experiences within season one overall.
The launch map pool for Black Ops 6 has already faced criticism for its lack of three-lane structure and the small size of most of its involved locations, and it seems Hideout and Heirloom continue this trend on a smaller scale. With that said, Black Ops 6 is starting its post-launch seasons strong with three brand new maps, meaning the game will hopefully boast a huge variety of experiences as these seasons continue.
