Seemingly out of the blue, a brand new Naruto trading card game has just been announced, with a 2027 release date, and a future tease coming in late July. However, the biggest and most exciting aspect of the game is that it is backed by Bandai Namco, something that the other active Naruto TCG cannot boast of.
With the popularity of games like Magic: The Gathering and Pokémon at an all-time high, and brands boasting revenue to match, it's not surprising to see a property as big as Naruto get another shot at a mainstream TCG. However, it is shocking that this announcement comes out of the blue when there is already a Naruto TCG that seems to be working hard to make a name for itself around the world.
New Naruto TCG announced, more details coming next month
The reveal of a new Naruto TCG is shocking for several reasons, firstly because there is already an active and relatively new Naruto TCG on the market, called Naruto Mythos. Second, this TCG is also produced directly by Bandai Namco, so there's an immediate sense of legitimacy to this game, given that Bandai Namco has been instrumental in launching the latest Naruto video games.
While details are thin on the ground at the moment, we do know from the short teaser trailer that the Naruto TCG is slated for a 2027 release, with more details about the game coming on July 29th.
This is the day before Gen Con, and if you're attending the event, you'll have the chance to go hands-on with the game in its first public outing, as tutorial sessions will be running throughout.
If you attend one of these sessions, you can bag some very cool merchandise, including a promotional card, a backpack, and a purchase ticket for a play mat that is scheduled to be released alongside the game in 2027.
You can register for these sessions on the Gen Con website starting June 21; a limited number of tickets will be available for each day. Future sessions will take place at events around the world with exact dates and locations to be confirmed.

What is happening with Naruto Mythos?
With the second Naruto Mythos set to be released in the UK and Europe in August, and a third set scheduled for release in November this year, Naruto Mythos is growing in popularity and demand every month. So it will be quite a shock for Cicaboom to see a new Naruto TCG hit the market, backed by a company like Bandai Namco.
I can only assume that both TCGs will co-exist in the short term, but it's hard to see a future where two TCGs based on the same property are both successful in the current collector market.
