Beloved Castlevania Collection gets new update

The popular Castlevania Dominus Collection has received a new update patch for December, with a variety of content and various bug fixes. The beloved collection, consisting of a variety of games from Castlevania franchise's history, now has a brand new mode for one of its games, and includes new ways for players to see the screens of the titles they're playing.

Released by original developer Konami in August 2024 Castlevania Dominus Collection primarily consists of Castlevania titles released on the Nintendo DS. This includes Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow, Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin, and Castlevania: The Order of Ecclesiawhich are considered to be some of the best Castlevania game in the series. The Castlevania Dominus Collection also includes the 1988 arcade game Haunted castle along with a new version called Haunted Castle Revisedthe latter of which is the recipient of arguably the largest component of the content update.

Given Castlevania Dominus Collections popularity despite a conspicuous Castlevania title omission, Konami has now released Castlevania Dominus Collection ver. 1.0.3, which adds a brand new Boss Rush Mode to it Haunted Castle Revisited. The new mode has a bit of a caveat though, as players must first beat the game to unlock the new mode. The update patch also adds new screen layouts, allowing players to change the placement of the various screens given the dual-screen nature of the DS titles. Although several bugs were fixed, but exactly what it was remains a mystery.

Castlevania Dominus Collections new update seems to be a bit more extensive than the last one. Castlevania Dominus Collections October update added new artwork for Castlevania: The Order of Ecclesia along with a bug fix for Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow. The previous patch interestingly reintroduced a small glitch in Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin which experienced players use as an exploit, with the update humorously referring to it as a feature.

Although it's been a decade since Konami released an original Castlevania title in the form of the 2014 century Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2, The IP has moved on via crossover content. The latest example happened quite recently with Vampire Survivor' Ode to Castlevania DLC, which adds over 20 characters from Castlevania franchise, including those included in Castlevania Dominus Collection. This brings a full circle moment Vampire Survivor by adding content and characters from IPs that the game is heavily inspired by. With Castlevanias seemingly undying popularity, fans still hope for a brand new original title one day.

Castlevania

The Castlevania series was originally developed by Konami and started on the NES when Castlevania was released in 1986. It is a long-running series and has even been turned into an animated series for Netflix. A series of stories follows the iconic Belmont family as they fight back against Dracula and his hordes of bloodthirsty minions.
