Assassin's Creed Invictus Gets Disappointing Update From Leaker

Assassin's Creed Invictus is reportedly not in a good state, according to a well-known Ubisoft leaker. The mysterious Assassin's Creed The project is said to be under review after some disappointing tests, with the situation reportedly serious enough that the game could face a delay or even cancellation.

Assassin's Creed Invictus was formally announced during the Ubisoft Forward showcase in September 2022. It was presented as part of a multi-game roadmap that also included four other titles, two of which have since been released in the form of Assassin's Creed Mirage and Shadows. Ubisoft framed Assassin's Creed Invictus as a multiplayer project led by Ubisoft Montreal, the team behind the successful medieval multiplayer action game For glory. Since then, the company has shared some other official details about the game.

Black Flag not the only Assassin's Creed remake currently in development, it is claimed

Another remake of a classic Assassin's Creed game is currently in the works alongside Black Flag Resynced, according to several reliable sources.

Assassin's Creed Invictus' latest playtest was reportedly 'terrible'

According to previous insider reports, Assassin's Creed Invictus was originally targeted for a 2025 release before being pushed back to 2026. Even that tentative launch target may now slip after the game's latest reported playtest, according to YouTuber and longtime Ubisoft leaker j0nathan. In a May 2 post on X, j0nathan shared a screenshot of an official-looking email invitation for an April 30 Assassin's Creed Invictus play test. The PC-only test was “really bad,” the YouTuber claimed, citing a second-hand account.

AC Invictus could reportedly slip out of 2026, or worse

As part of the same post, j0nathan supported recent rumors that Assassin's Creed Invictus had targeted a 2026 release and described them as correct. However, the leaker said the project now has a “good chance” of being delayed or even canceled due to its weak state. It's unclear if that assessment is based on inside information of the kind j0nathan sometimes shares, or if it's a personal guess. Regardless, the report itself does not inspire confidence Assassin's Creed Invictus works as well as Ubisoft probably hoped following roughly four years of development.

The partially redacted email invitation shared by j0nathan seemingly confirms earlier rumors Assassin's Creed Invictus be competitive in nature, describing the unreleased game as a “brand new multiplayer PvP experience” set in Assassin's Creed universe. Although the leaked email is in French, it is unclear if the April 30 playtest was held outside of France and/or Canada. The enrollment requirements are also unclear. Many Ubisoft playtests rely on fan registrations to create a pool of potential testers, but Ubisoft has not officially offered pre-registration for Assassin's Creed Invictus to date.

In the past, j0nathan and several other established leakers have described Assassin's Creed Invictus like something similar to Mediatonic's hit Autumn guys. First released in August 2020, Autumn guys is a chaotic multiplayer game that presents platforming challenges in a battle royale format, tasking dozens of players with chasing a golden crown through deadly levels until only one remains. Although such a light-hearted party game-style format may seem difficult to reconcile with a comparatively serious franchise such as Assassin's Creedit would not be entirely without precedent. Ubisoft Halifax and Behavior Interactive's Assassin's Creed Rebellionoriginally released for mobile devices in 2018, has already shown that the IP can accommodate more stylized and whimsical interpretations, including chibi-style character designs.
