Boruto: Two Blue Vortex Chapter 34 was officially released today, May 20, 2026 at Shuesha's V-jump Issue #7. This new issue of V-Jump carried the latest chapter titled “Used To It” which focused on the aftermath of the war between the shinobi of Konoha and Mamushi. Masashi Kishimoto, the supervisor of the manga, and Mikio Ikemoto, the illustrator and writer, drew a lot of attention to the next generation of ninjas when they finally emerged from a difficult battle largely unscathed. The vast majority of attention in this chapter went to Boruto Uzumaki, but another fan favorite, Sarada Uchiha, couldn't be ignored either.
Thanks to Sarada Uchiha, Kishimoto and Ikemoto brought back Sakura Haruno, who is her mother, today. We've been waiting for the return of Sakura Haruno beyond just small panel appearances for 12 years now, and are glad to see that the writers have finally delivered against all odds. Upon her return, Sakura received a huge amount of characterization in this month's chapter, upgrading her overall character arc both as a ninja of Konoha and as the mother of Sarada Uchiha.
Boruto: Two Blue Vortex Chapter 34 Officially Brings Back Sakura Haruno with Added Characterization as a Shinobi and a Mother
Boruto: Two Blue Vortex Chapter 32, which was officially released on March 20, 2026, saw Sarada suffer massive damage after harnessing the power of her Mangekyo Sharingan. Immediately after she unleashed the Ohirume Jutsu to bring Mamushi down once and for all, her eye almost imploded and she fainted. Thanks to Himawari, the damage to the surface was instantly healed, but she remained unconscious until the recent events that unfolded in today's Boruto: Two Blue Vortex Chapter 34.
In this new chapter, Sakura was seen taking care of her own daughter, and it was quite clear to her that her daughter's eyesight had gotten worse. Sarada has relied excessively on the power of the Mangekyo Sharingan, all to protect those close to her, because after all, this power is born of love. But it also comes at a huge price, and that is possible permanent blindness.
“As I thought, the recipe doesn't seem to be right. Your eyesight has clearly deteriorated compared to before. It's a risk that inevitably follows the Mangekyō Sharingan. The more you use it, the more your sight deteriorates… It depends on the nature of the technique and how it's used… but anyway; if you keep using it like this, you'll end up completely blind.” — Sakura Haruno, Boruto: Two Blue Vortex Chapter 34 Sneak Peek
While most fans expected Sakura to forbid her daughter from using her power, what Masashi Kishimoto and Mikio Ikemoto did in this chapter surprised us all. Instead of letting Sakura take harsh measures against her daughter, she supported her decision to use this power for those she loves, even if it means becoming permanently blind. Sakura is first and foremost a shinobi, and we've seen her journey unfold in the original Naruto manga for over a decade. She knows the kind of determination it takes to protect those close to her, which is exactly why she understands what Sarada is doing right now. Instead of acting on emotion as a parent, Sakura clearly tells Sarada to continue using her power whenever she sees fit, as it is a power that came from her determination, which she should never betray.
“I won't tell you to stop. Because it is something, a strength that you yourself created when you felt you needed the power to do and protect what you wanted.” —Sakura Haruno, Boruto: Two Blue Vortex Chapter #34
By putting Sakura Haruno in an incredibly conflicted position as both parent and Shinobi, Boruto: Two Blue Vortex Chapter 34 did wonders for her character. Sakura clearly told her daughter to follow in the footsteps of both her father, Sasuke Uchiha, and her uncle, Itachi Uchiha. Even if the whole world can stand against her and ridicule her, just like they have for the past three years.
But the moment Sakura left the ward to attend to another patient, we could see tears running down her cheeks. These tears stem from her deep concern for her daughter and her well-being, but she still fought them because she is emotionally strong and more than straightforward to realize that Sarada is her own person and, as a shinobi, has her own resolve. As a mother she feels pain, but as a ninja she respects her daughter's determination, and this strengthens the character of both Sakura and Sarada.
“Just know this Sarada, I will always believe in you and your father no matter what! Besides, I'm used to it! Being lectured about my family.” —Sakura Haruno, Boruto: Two Blue Vortex Chapter #34

How Ikemoto's new Sakura Moment improved her overall character arc in Boruto
Sakura Haruno has barely been involved in Boruto series except for a couple of appearances here and there. Boruto: Two Blue Vortex Chapter 34 marks her first significant moment in the manga and elevates her character brilliantly. Sakura has always received criticism from fans for a variety of reasons, some of which are quite unfair. IN Boruto: Two Blue Vortex Chapter 34, Kishimoto and Ikemoto didn't even put a single foot wrong by perfectly balancing Sakura's side as a caring and loving mother against a shinobi who understands the determination of another shinobi.
This chapter elevated her entire character arc to a whole new level. Most of all, we want to see this character arc of Sakura continue further in the coming chapters. Since the new arc has now officially begun, we can only hope that Sakura continues to develop as a supporting character in Boruto: Two Blue Vortex. That would be absolutely brilliant, especially in the absence of both Sasuke Uchiha and Naruto Uzumaki.

Sakura's role in Boruto's Future: Two Blue Vortex
Boruto: Two Blue Vortex is primarily about the next generation of ninjas. Expecting Sakura to be on the front lines and participating in major battles is not an expectation that any of us fans should have. However, Sakura can still develop as a supporting character brilliantly in this manga going forward. She has more than enough strength to fight against top enemies and act as support, allowing her own daughter and the second young generation of ninjas to rise to the top.
In the absence of Naruto and Sasuke, Sakura can fill this role beautifully, especially in the upcoming arc, where it has been officially teased that Code will make a move to abduct Sarada Uchiha in an attempt to lure Boruto away. As Sarada's mother, Sakura should be the one leading the mission to save her daughter from the front. This will not only give her the ability to engage in high-level battles, but also show how deeply she loves her daughter and stands as a powerful parental figure in the new arc.
“The code is running away after deciding he has little chance of winning against you. Therefore, he's going after Sarada. He's going to take her to Shinju as a bargaining chip, knowing she can be used as bait to lure you out.” — Kashin Koji explains Sarada's role in the new Boruto Arc in Two Blue Vortex Chapter #34
The new arc of Boruto: Two Blue Vortexwhich officially began on May 20, 2026, will likely continue to develop the character of Sakura Haruno on the side. Fans shouldn't expect her to take center stage because at the end of the day, her own story is over and this is the story of her daughter and her countrymen. Still, we're absolutely thrilled to see an old Naruto character get this much attention in Two Blue Vortex and hope it continues its downward spiral as well.
