Leaf developers respond to recent cancellation rumors

Xbox fans have been eagerly waiting for more information about Marvel's Bladeand developer Arkane Studios has offered a small update to reassure fans that development on the game is still progressing. Marvel's Blade is an upcoming single-player game that will put players in the role of the eponymous hero. Blade was largely a minor cartoon character for decades before starring in a trio of films in which he was portrayed by actor Wesley Snipes. The actor reprized the role of Blade in the 2024s Deadpool & Wolverine Film.

As of this writing, some information about Marvel's Blade has been revealed. The game will put players in the role of Daywalker himself, in an adventure set in Paris. Blade will spend the game hunting vampiric enemies, and it will be done from a third-person perspective. The brief hints from Arkane hint that Blade will have many options to dispatch his enemies, including his trusty sword.

Marvel's Blade was announced in 2023, but very little information has been revealed since then. Fans have questioned whether the game was quietly cancelled, but Jean-Luc Monnet has given new hope thanks to a post on Twitter. Monnet serves as lead concept artist and assistant art director at Arkane Studios, and responded to a post asking for some sort of update. Monnet simply responded with a gif from the TV show Breaking Badwith Walter White saying, “let's cook.” Unfortunately, it's unclear when fans can expect a deeper look at how the game's development is progressing.

While that update doesn't give fans much to go on, it should reassure those who were worried. There have been many major game cancellations in recent years, and this has made it harder for players to get too invested. Xbox exclusive as Perfectly dark has been discontinued, and that doesn't even account for multi-platform superhero games like Monoliths Wonder Woman. Thankfully it seems Marvel's Blade not likely to suffer a similar fate anytime soon.

Based on everything known about Xbox's plans for the next few years, it's a safe bet Marvel's Blade won't be released until sometime in 2027 at the earliest. Thankfully, Blade has been playable in several video games, many of which are available on the Xbox Series X/S. Most notably, the hero appears in Marvel's Midnight Suns, LEGO Marvel Super Heroesand Marvel Rivals. None of these ensemble games will offer quite the same experience as actually playing the character in a solo role, but they can give fans something to pass the time.

This can frustrate players who don't want to wait Leaf for at least another year or two, but it should help Xbox and Arkane avoid another high-profile Marvel game. Marvel's Wolverine will be released in September, and the PS5-exclusive game could be one of the biggest games of 2026. It's unlikely that Xbox is deliberately avoiding releasing Leaf around the same time, but it can benefit the company regardless. The fall and winter seasons are already packed with many game releases, and Wolverine has always been a bigger name than Blade. Giving the game more time can only be a good thing, especially if it avoids a situation where it could be overshadowed.
