Gothic 1 Remake facing performance issues, frequent stuttering and optimization issues on all platforms the game is available on. Not only is the infamous Unreal Engine lag particularly noticeable on weaker hardware, but even high-end machine owners have reported rendering issues such as shadow flicker, rare pop-ins, and other performance-related issues.
The following guide covers the best graphics settings for Gothic 1 Remake based on our experience. While these won't completely eliminate all performance issues, they will reduce the most obvious issues that make it nearly unplayable for some users. Here's the breakdown.

Best graphics settings for Gothic 1 Remake
The following graphics settings were tested on a PC with an i5-13600KF, 32 GB of RAM and an RTX 4070 at a resolution of 1440p. We managed to get a cut on 60-70 FPS at native settings and 100-120 FPS with DLSS 4.5 ON and Frame Generation AV. AMD FSR 3.1.4 gave similar results, but the image quality was worse, so DLSS 4.5 is preferred.

How to fix stuttering in Gothic 1 Remake
Stammering in Gothic 1 Remake cannot be completely eliminated. This is an optimization issue with the base game that can only be fixed from the backend. That said, there are a few settings that can help reduce the overall stuttering issues in the game by making them less noticeable.
Set FPS limit
By default, Gothic 1 Remakes maximum FPS is set to Unlimited. Reduce the FPS limit to at least your monitor's maximum FPS to avoid large spikes that cause the game to stutter. If your machine can't hit close to your monitor's maximum FPS, reduce the FPS limit to 60.
Turn on scaling
Due to poor optimization, plays Gothic 1 Remake on built-in settings is almost impossible except on very advanced computers. The game offers various upscaling options, including DLSS, AMD, Intel XeSS, and Unreal TSR. Choose which one you prefer, and it will improve the stuttering problem and give you better FPS.
Ultimate Engine Tweaks Mod
If you're on PC, try Ultimate Engine Tweaks mod too Gothic 1 Remake. Not only does that give you about 10-18 additional frames, but it also gives you more consistent lows, which is the main reason for stuttering in UE5 games.
