Map

Why?

S level

Totenreich

The general atmosphere of Totenreich is impeccable, and while the easter egg quest is a little shorter than most, the boss fight, map layout, and wonder weapon are tons of fun. Also, who doesn't like more Richtofen lore?

Ashes of the Damned

The launch map has so much to offer and proves that Treyarch can still innovate. Driving Ol' Tessie around multiple locations, each with their own aesthetic, is a treat that makes this large map feel so much alive.

A level

No

We don't think there are any A-Tier maps in BO7 Zombies yet, but the next two planned maps may change that.

B level

Astra Malorum

There's no skybox quite like Astra Malorum, and there's certainly a lot to enjoy in terms of side easter eggs. However, the confined areas make this map a little challenging, and OSCAR can be even more annoying than George Romero from COTD.

C level

Paradox Junction

While Paradox Junction is fun and easy to jump into, it feels like a wasted map slot because it's literally just two versions of Nuketown, and a randomly thrown in Blundergat that seems disrespectful to MOTD and BOTD.

S-Tier standard maps

These maps are S-Tier for me, and if I'm going to replay any map it will be one of these because of their map layout, subweapons, and strong impressions.

Totenreich

Richtofen is my favorite COD Zombies character, so seeing him get a personal map with the Totenreich already gave it bonus points in my book. However, I didn't expect the return of the Origins bots and a literal ice giant boss fight that bumped Totenreich from a potential 10/10 to an 11/10.

I love the map layout of the Totenreich, from the connecting Fishery Island and Beacon Island, to the abandoned villages scattered about. Even the subweapon mission is a blast, and the Jotunn Star (while underwhelming over Round 40) is so much fun to hack and slash.

Ashes of the Damned

The launch map for Black Ops 7 Zombies was and still is a delight. I may be biased because I love the return of the OG four (Richtofen, Dempsey, Takeo and Nikolai), but that doesn't take away from the fact that Ashes of the Damned is a Tranzit-inspired map done right.

This map is huge, and driving Ol' Tessie around to visit different-but-familiar areas, which are just as fun to train zombies in, is awesome. I love Necrofluid Gauntlet with Melee Macchiato, and I love taking Ol' Tessie for a spin to different areas if I ever get bored of being in one place.

B-Tier standard maps

B-Tier maps are what I would see as “decent, but with issues”. I wouldn't mind playing these maps, but there are a few things that could be improved to make them a much better experience.

Astra Malorum

The intro scene, landing on a giant skull orbiting Saturn and going to Mars… what a trip! Astra Malorum excels at unleashing havoc from the Dark Aether, until you actually explore the map and realize it's pretty small, and there's not much to do other than shoot zombies.

The map can be pretty fun, and unlocking Mars is easy. But LGM-1 feels extremely weak to use, even with buffs, and OSCAR? This elite enemy spawns… constantly… and he makes me dread running Astra Malorum simply because I don't want to have to run away every time he finds me.

C-Tier standard maps

C-Tier maps are the ones that I see as simply “okay”, but I find them to be completely lacking in anything stimulating. These are the maps I would choose if I wanted to turn off my brain and shoot zombies.

Paradox Junction

Paradox Junction was… disappointing, to say the least. Waiting for a new map, only to get Nuketown (for the third time) was a shame. At least in Black Ops 4Nuketown (Alpha Omega) had more areas to explore, while Pardox Junction is literally just Nuketown post-nuke and pre-nuke.

The easter egg is actually decent, and if you want to turn off your brain and shoot zombies for camos and XP, Paradox Junction is fine, but it's just in a weird place. Why Nuketown? Why bring back Blundergat? It's frustrating, because if this map was supposed to be a “prison” set up by the Warden, why not just take us to Alcatraz?

Why?

S Tier

Vandorn farm

It's a classic location from Black Ops 2, but better than ever. The training area is large and allows you to turn off your brain and just enjoy going through the rounds without restrictions.

A Tier

Exit 115

Despite the narrow path, there is more room than you think to train zombies and get to high rounds. Exit 115 is easy for fun and fast high round strats with little in the way to burden you.

B level

Ashwood

Ashwood does something interesting where you're confined to the upper floors, as the Pack-a-Punch is in the mist below, filled with super sprinters. Regardless, training in Ashwood is extremely challenging due to its tight quarters, especially with a Zursa in the area.

Zarya Cosmodrome

Another Ashes of the Damned area made into a survival map, Zarya Cosmodrome is pretty restrictive, where you really only have a small box and a narrow ramp to train in, but there's fun to be had in the intensity.

C level

March

While visually cool, the anti-gravity mechanic and Uber Klaus make Mars a real burden to play. Antigravity slows down zombies and occurs too often (and should be activated manually).
