Diablo 4 Season 13's Best Class To Clear Plague Level 12 Is A Blast From The Past

The challenge of Diablo 4 has increased dramatically in Season 13, with the release of Lord of Hatred raising the maximum Torment difficulty level to 12. As a result, Diablo 4 players will want to invest in only the absolute S-Tier builds if they hope to stand a chance against the threats that Torment 12 offers. Thankfully, there's a simple build that can easily destroy even Uber Mephisto at Torment 12, and it's a class that's been waiting to make its big return for a while now.

Lord of Hatred's rework of the Skill Tree has changed the balance of power between Diablo 4s classes, pushing some previously low-tier classes and builds to the top of the meta, while pushing what were previously some of the best builds in the game down the rankings. In particular, the Paladin has been brought down hard Diablo 4 Season 13, with its classic Aura Paladin builds a shell of its former self. However, the barbarian has postponed Diablo 4s meta ladder to become the true star of the season, with the old reliable Whirlwind Barbarian offering players the best chance of surviving Torment 12.

Whirlwind Barbarian is perfect for clearing Diablo 4's hardest torment levels

Whirlwind Barbarian is a classic Diablo archetype known for its “spin to win” gameplay, allowing players to spin their barbarian around the map while killing hordes of enemies without worrying too much about skill rotation. This type of construction has historically been ideal for players looking for a fairly low risk Diablo 4 experience, but the changes to Diablo 4's Skill Tree and the addition of the Talisman mechanic really let this build shine. The best thing about this build is that it doesn't require too many Mythics to excel in higher Torment tiers, so players can get this build up and running fairly quickly.

Best skills for a Torment Tier 12 Whirlwind Barbarian

  • Whirlwind

  • Rallying Cry

  • Challenging shout

  • War cry

  • Iron skin

  • Call of the Ancients

Whirlwind will obviously be the Core Barbarian Skill used in this build, as it will be the class' main source of damage and mobility. With upgrades, Whirlwind can deal 40% more damage at an increased Fury cost. While this makes the build very resource heavy, it also helps scale the damage Barbarians can do when spinning with Whirlwind.

The Barbarian's three Shout Skills are all useful in this build. In particular, Rallying Cry can be used to increase the barbarian's movement speed, allowing them to spin around the battlefield even faster. Rallying Cry and Challenging Shout are perfect for buffing the barbarian for extra damage against tougher enemies like Elites and Lair Bosses.

Iron Skin is already a solid defensive skill that helps with barbarian survivability when using Whirlwind. But it also gains an extra feature when upgraded to the Juggernaut variant, giving Barbarian Unstoppable as well as Barrier generation. Call of the Ancients is the ultimate skill of choice for this build, but it's not a huge source of damage and mainly serves as a way to further buff the barbarian with its attack speed upgrade and damage bonus.

“The brutal construction of these gloves belies the strength they bestow. Gohr was clearly no craftsman, but it would be foolish to ignore the triumph of his work.” – Barrett's Book of Gear

Barbarian

  • Gohr's devastating grip

  • Tibault's will

  • Lucio's crown

  • Ramaladni's Magnum Opus

  • Anger management aspect

  • Aspect of channeling

There are four key uniques that all Whirlwind Barbarians want for this build: Gohr's Devastating Grips, Tibault's Will, Crown of Lucion, and Ramaladni's Magnum Opus. Gohr's devastating grabs are the most important for this build, as they increase the damage of Whirlwind and draw enemies every 2 seconds. Tibault's Will is also very important as it helps the Fury generations keep Whirlwind going. Using Iron Skin to grant Barbarian Unstoppable is the perfect way to activate the unique effect of Tibault's Will.

+[51 – 65] All statistics
+[489 – 526] Maximum life
+[8 – 16] Maximum resource
+[10.5 – 15.0]% Damage reduction while unstoppable

You shop [10 – 20]%[x] increased damage while Unstoppable and for 5 seconds after. When you become Unstoppable, gain 50 of your primary resource.
“The younger apprentices think it's foolish to carry heavy plate in the swamp. They don't understand that our armor is our heritage, and without it we are nothing.” – Crusader Pembroke

Tibault's Will is also useful in conjunction with Ramaladni's Magnum Opus, which increases the damage of the barbarian's skills for each point of Fury the player has, but constantly drains Fury. Crown of Lucion also works similarly, increasing the power of Skills by a resource cost but increasing the resource cost in turn. This makes the Fury generation a key part of keeping this build performing at its peak.

Players can exchange Lucio's Crown for the Mythical Heir of Decay and move the unique effect of Lucio's Crown into the talisman via its unique Charm.

The Rage Management Legendary Aspect and the Channeling Legendary Aspect are also good ways to increase Whirlwind Barbarian's damage output. Anger Management grants the barbarian a damage increase and Berserking status while above 50 Primary Resource, at the cost of 3 less resource generation. Channeling increases the damage of skills while channeled, meaning Whirlwind gets a nice boost with this aspect.

What makes the Whirlwind Barbarian a top model for Diablo 4 in Season 13

Whirlwind Barbarians have historically excelled at stacking damage modifiers on top of damage modifiers to create an insane damage scaling curve. Where this build has struggled in the past is in its resource generation, which takes all of these sources of increased damage. But the addition of Talisman and Set bonuses has really been Whirlwind Barbarian's saving grace, mitigating much of this resource drain and propelling it to the top of the Season 13 meta.
