The Star Fox Reveal was reported so suddenly that he argued with Leaker

A trusted insider has claimed that Nintendo's sudden announcement of the long-rumored Star Fox remake was done on purpose to “screw” its leakers.

Nintendo has been rumored for some time to be working on a brand new Star Fox game of some sort, originally leaked by reliable insider NateTheHate, alongside a Legend of Zelda remake. Nate claimed that Star Fox would be announced sometime in April, but ended up having to backtrack and say his information was a “miss”.

That admission only happened a few days ago, making it very suspect timing when Nintendo basically shadowed a Star Fox Direct last night to announce the new game (which is actually more of a remake, as it turns out). If it didn't already seem like Nintendo released it that way on purpose, a trusted insider has now suggested that is the case.

Star Fox was announced so suddenly as a response to its leak, insiders suggest

That explains the 10-minute warning

On Twitter, Kiwi Talkz (who is known for his interviews with former Nintendo staff and clearly has knowledge of how the studio works) responded to a thread asking about Nintendo's marketing strategy after the Star Fox Direct. Kiwi Talkz simply said that Nintendo did it that way to “screw with Nate”, noting that it can be “very petty” at times.

If more video game remakes are on the way, it's time to start remaking bad games

Good games already had their fun. Now it's the bad game's turn.

That's all Kiwi Talkz had to say on the subject, but it's a theory that's been floating around as soon as Nintendo announced that the Direct happened out of nowhere and with just 10 minutes to go. Plans certainly change, but it's especially noticeable when Nate had just apologized to everyone for his specific timeline being “off the mark.”

Given how secretive Nintendo is about what games and projects it has in the works, and how much of it has been leaked over the past few years (notably by NateTheHate), it's no surprise that they're trying to get their own back, however they can. Of course, Nate still ended up getting the information right and likely confirming the Zelda remake in the process, so it looks like the battle has really only just begun.
