The coming one God of war Prime Video TV shows have their Kratos, as Amazon MGM and Sony Pictures announced that actor Ryan Hurst has been tapped to play the Ghost of Sparta. Known for his roles in shows like Sons of AnarchyHurst is not new to God of war franchise, in which he previously appeared God of War Ragnarok like Thor's voice.
The God of war The TV series is a joint production of Sony Pictures Television and Amazon MGM Studios. Despite the initial announcement in 2022, God of war have seen some bumps in the road. The project restarted development in 2024 after several key characters left the show. Amazon and Sony then brought in Ronald D. Moore as lead showrunner. Moore later said he was working on God of war screenplay with Sony's Santa Monica Studio, incl God of war series creative director Cory Barlog. Barlog is credited as an executive producer of God of war TV show, together with PlayStation boss Hermen Hulst. At the time of this writing, God of war is scheduled to begin filming in March 2026 in Vancouver.

God of War TV series reveals who plays The Ghost of Sparta
Two months before principal recording of God of war was scheduled to start, Amazon MGM and Sony Pictures have shared who will step into the role of Kratos in the upcoming show. The studios confirmed on January 14 that actor Ryan Hurst will play the title role God of war. Some of Hurst's previous acting credits include playing Harry “Opie” Winston in the fan favorite crime drama Sons of Anarchy and high school athlete Gerry Bertier in Disney's 2000 biographical sports film Remember the Titans.
However, Hurst's name may be familiar to God of war fans. Hurst has previously voiced Thor, the giant Norse god of thunder, in God of War Ragnarok. Hurst's performance as Thor was positively received and he was nominated for a BAFTA Award for Best Performance in a Supporting Role in 2023. The BAFTA award went to another God of War Ragnarok voice actor, Laya DeLeon Hayes, who played Angrboda. Hurst plays Kratos alongside actors Terrence C. Carson and Christopher Judge.
The coming one God of War TV The series will focus on the popular Norse saga, with the events of 2018 God of war the game is depicted as part of the show's plot. Kratos and Atreus are confirmed to appear in God of war show, with other characters like Baldur and Freya likely to follow. Throughout the story, Kratos and Atreus will learn from each other, with their relationship as father and son being a prominent plot point that will test them. Despite the revelation of Hurst as the Ghost of Sparta, God of war still have some outstanding roles to announce. Important characters from God of wars Norse saga, such as Atreus, Freya and Odin, has yet to have any casting announcements confirmed by Amazon or Sony as of this writing.
Other God of War roles may be confirmed soon
Even if God of war has revealed its lead, other roles may still be revealed before filming begins. Previous leaks and rumors about God of war TV series indicated that Baldur, 2018's antagonist God of warcould be played by Max Parker. Parker's acting resume includes appearances in Boots and Doctor Who. Other rumors claimed that the thunderous Thor may be played by Olafur Darri Olafsson, who appeared in shows such as Severance pay. Of course, with the exception of any official words from Amazon or Sony, rumors about God of wars unannounced roles should be taken with a fine grain of salt.
While God of war The Prime Video series is about to enter its production phase, the game series that inspired it has been silent after the release of God of War Ragnarokpp free Valhalla DLC 2023. With rumors of the direction that God of war franchise can go after the events of Ragnaröktime will tell when Ghost of Sparta returns to PlayStation consoles.
