Was officially introduced in One Piece Chapter 1159 September 8, 2025 The Davy Clan is a legendary group of people from the Void Century time period. It is believed that long ago the Davy clan ruled the world of One Piece, with Davy D. Jones as the king. At the helm of the Davy Clan was none other than Davy Jones, known for being one of the most prominent figures in the history of the One Piece world.
The influence of the Davy clan in the West Blue has been quite evident in the Elbaf arc, with Blackbeard known to be its last known survivor. However, a Straw Hat pirate may also have important connections to this clan, and this person is none other than the musician that the ongoing Esperia Kingdom flashback is currently focusing on – Dead Bones Brook.
Why Brook and Reuven may come from the Davy clan
The Musician of the Straw Hat Pirates, Brook, officially joined Monkey D. Luffy One Piece chapter 489, titled “The 8th Member”, which was released in Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump Issue #13 on February 25, 2008. Since then, Brook has been an integral part of Luffy's crew, helping him in every way possible. When Brook was first introduced to us, his past was revealed to be connected to the Rumbar Pirates. 52 years ago, this crew sailed into the Grand Line, only to be eventually destroyed. Brook was revived by the powers of the Yomi Yomi no Mi, which he ate at an unknown time, and became the only member of the crew to be revived. After this revival, Brook continued to remain lost in the Florian Triangle until the Straw Hat Pirates eventually rescued him and took him aboard.
“Thriller Bark once came from our homeland of West Blue. Maybe they will rest well in our homeland.” — Brook explains the meaning of West Blue
The backstory of Brook revealed in the Thriller Bark Arc spanned chapters 486-488, and while this backstory was huge, it didn't really cover Brook's original past. The Elbaf arc shed significant light on Brooks' background, starting from chapter 1183 of Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump Issue #26 on May 25, 2026. In the Esperia Kingdom flashback, Brooks' past was shown to us properly for the very first time, and it was clear to see that he was just a homeless boy and nothing to his parents.
“Dad and mom and little brother, we're all starving skin and bones. How am I even living? Eating toads to survive!” — Brook briefly mentions his family, One Piece Chapter #1184
As an orphan, Brook had nothing to do for him. That said, one thing that was immediately apparent from his character design was his resemblance to the child version of Marshall D. Teech, who was officially seen at God Valley in One Piece Chapter 1159 on September 8, 2025, in WSJ Issue #41.
The similarities between Brook and Teech are quite uncanny. Both sport an afro, both have similar facial features such as lips, eyes and eyelashes, and at first glance the two almost look like they are brothers. Another interesting similarity between Brook and Blackbeard is that they are both from the West Blue. While Blackbeard lived in God Valley with the rest of the Davy Clan members, Brook came from Esperia, another kingdom in the same ocean, which met the same fate. Brook's parents, as well as his siblings, who are hidden by Eiichiro Oda, add further fuel to the fire that connects him to the mysterious Davy clan in the One Piece world.
In fact, Brook isn't even the only member who could potentially come from the Davy Clan. Just one look at King Reuven of Esperia tells us that he too bears a striking resemblance to members of the Davy clan from the God Valley. King Reuven was a powerful ruler in West Blue, and if you look at his facial appearance, he looks extremely similar to Rock's D. Xebec, as well as Rock's parents, which was officially revealed to us in One Piece Chapter 1162.
It seems that there is a strong influence of the Davy Clan members in West Blue, which may also be why so many islands have disappeared over the years. This could also explain why Imu sent the Marines and the World Government to destroy Esperia and why a Heavenly Dragon reached the island long ago, which was confirmed in One Piece Chapter 1185 on June 14, 2025 in Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump Issue #29.

One Piece prepares for a sad day on July 5th with a hiatus announcement
The One Piece anime is going on hiatus very soon, marking a sad day for the series.
Why the Davy clan spread like the D clan
The Davy Clan are scattered across the world of One Piece, with only a handful surviving. The vast majority of this clan lived in the God Valley, and 38 years ago they met their end. After Rocks D. Xebec died at the hands of Garling, the entire island sank to the bottom of the sea, meaning the entire family that Rocks had there also sank. The only people who managed to escape from God Valley were Eris, who was originally from another clan, and Teech, who became the last known survivor of the Davy clan.
“Unaligned lands are turning into lawless wastelands, aren't they? I heard another land in West Blue was destroyed!” — Esperia people, One Piece Chapter #1185
That said, given the existence of a Davy population in West Blue for centuries, it's not uncommon to think that some members were hiding on various islands, and Esperia could easily have been such a place. This makes particular sense given that Esperia was destroyed and erased from the map, as confirmed by Brook in One Piece Chapter 1183, officially released in Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump issue #26 on May 25, 2026. Davy Clan members spreading around the world makes a lot of sense, especially considering they were persecuted and hunted by the government. Perhaps Brook's family had a strong connection to the Davy clan and went to hide on Esperia, eventually giving birth to Brook, who could also be from the same clan.

Brook and Blackbeard could hold a key connection in the final saga
Besides the similarities in physical appearance and place of origin, there are other things that connect Brook and Blackbeard. First, Brook and Blackbeard have Devil Fruits with similar names. Brook has Yomi Yomi no Mi, while Blackbeard has Yami Yami no Mi. The previous Devil Fruit allows Brook to come back from death itself, while Blackbeard's Devil Fruit allows him to control the darkness. Both abilities connect to the darkness of the underworld in one way or another, which is an interesting connection between the two.
Their benefactors are also somewhat connected and look extremely similar. For Blackbeard it was none other than his father, Rocks. For Brook it was King Reuven. Also, both characters share a very similar, very intriguing connection to whales. Brook bonded with Laboon after he began sailing with the Straw Hat Pirates, while Blackbeard had none other than Whitebeard, who sailed atop Moby Dick, another whale, completing another clever pairing between the two by Eiichiro Oda.
It seems that Eiichiro Oda in Brook and Blackbeard could potentially paint two sides of the same coin. While both were persecuted, Brook grew up to be carefree, while Blackbeard grew up with resentment and fire for the whole world. Perhaps a meeting between Brook and Blackbeard could take place in the future, where they discussed their birth within the Davy line, and that would certainly be an incredible development for all fans to enjoy.
