What Happened in Episode 6: Momo Yozakura the Family Guy
“Family reunions are so much fun. What fun they are!” – Momo Yozakura
Taiyo glows with a great sense of elation at having used his Silver Rank license card for the first time and heads straight to Dr. Kawashita. Well on its way to making another contribution to some of the best story arcs in the Mission: The Yozakura familyTaiyo assures Futaba and the rest of the Yozakura siblings that nothing bad will happen. Little does he know that Momo Yozakura has a different idea of Taiyo's day well spent.
As soon as Momo materializes out of thin air, episode 6 spirals into an epic showdown between the enraged father and his sons and daughters, taking the heart of season 2 for a tasteful, brilliant action spin. In the aftermath of this kinetic exchange between some of the strongest special forces in Mission: The Yozakura familyThe Kawashita Interrogation Arc culminates in moving monologues and the beginning of something darker.
What to Expect in Episode 7: Yozakura Roots Arc Begins
When the end of episode 6 reveals the name of the new episode, titled “At the Old Yozakura Residence,” we get a big insight into what's coming next in season 2. Pointing directly to chapter 106 of volume 13 of Hitsuji Gondaira's completed Mission: The Yozakura family manga series, episode 7 marks the start of the Yozakura Roots Arc.
Heading into Chapter 106, however, the manga moves us from one major story arc to the next through Chapter 103 where the Yozakura siblings band together to help Taiyo take control of Profuse Blooming. Perhaps we'll get a glimpse of this chapter's adaptation in the new episode, as it packs its fair share of situational hilarity.
Down the family rabbit hole: at the old Yozakura residence
Anchored in Chapter 106 of the same title, Episode 7 sends Taiyo and the Yozakura siblings on the trail of Momo Yozakura's Someinine. This forked path takes them to Ninomae Manor – the abandoned residence of Lady Ninomae Yozakura who was the second head of the Yozakura clan.
As Momo's ideas about fatherhood steadily rank him higher among the most toxic fathers in anime, the mystery of Momo's trace in this place prompts Taiyo, Shion, Futaba, and Shinzo to explore it. Without spoiling our appetite for episode 7, let's just say that Lady Ninomae's abode is still hers, and she doesn't hesitate to show it in chapter 107.
Due to the tight thematic connection between the two chapters, it is very likely that chapter 107 will be the core of the adaptation in episode 7 along with chapter 106. Considering what the manga has to share with us about the nature of Someinine levels in modern Lady Ninomae, we are in for another very dynamic fight scene in episode 7.
Quite a bit of room for lovely Slice-of-Life to bloom
From Shion's reluctant master class in computer maintenance to Mutsumi's debut in the world of slimming, chapters 104 and 105 of volume 12 of the manga wrap the Yozakura Roots Arc in a cozy blanket of comedy. The same goes for Chapters 108 and 109 of Volume 13, where we can relax into the family's carefree sorting through their old stash and the fun of Kengo's skincare trials and tribulations.
Belongs to the best series that mix slice-of-life and shonen anime, Mission: The Yozakura family does an excellent job of achieving a nuanced harmony between multiple anime genres and audiences. Unfortunately, the limited scope of Season 2 forces the anime adaptation to forgo some parts of the manga. Still and all, Episode 7 might have some room for these light-hearted moments to help us all cool off from the heat of the action in the main arc.
How Episode 7 Shapes the Rest of Season 2
Despite his daring experiments in rearranging certain manga parts, Mission: The Yozakura family does a good job of maintaining thematic cohesion. This gives the anime adaptation every chance to succeed among the smoothest fast-paced anime gems. Even so, it's unlikely that Episode 7 will attempt to integrate the entire Yozakura Roots Arc within the framework of just one episode.
With its exciting environments and eventful nature, not to mention the ambient comedy that balances all the action, this thematic arc extends all the way into chapter 110 of volume 13 of the manga series. This makes the Yozakura Roots Arc too juicy to rush through in episode 7 alone.
That said, the pace set by Episode 7 is still bound to shape how smoothly the rest of Season 2 unfolds. Let's hope that the catalytic pace of the previous episodes was just a small step towards the more exciting arc ahead and not the start of a lingering story surf.
