As it seems, however, Shion's struggles in the dating world, earning her a place among the best kuudere archetype anime characters, are far from a relaxing detour from the new season.

What awaits us in episode 3
As we can tell from its name, Episode 3 draws inspiration from Chapter 98 of the finished Yozakura-san Chi no Daisakusen manga. In this chapter, Shinzo follows in Shion's socially awkward footsteps and somehow ends up in the middle of a date that a seemingly ordinary shopping trip turns into.
It already feels curious, to say the least, to imagine Shinzo spending more time with a girl who is not part of his family than with his weapons in his garbage can-like tank. Still and all, as exciting as it is, this development might not be the juiciest part that the upcoming episode has in store for us.
What the security watch means for Shinzo's personal life
In Chapter 98 of the manga, Shinzo decides to pay a visit to the so-called Blood Spray Shopping Arcade – the spy's underworld's very own shopping mall. After Shinzo refuses to take Taiyo with him, Ayaka Kirisaki, Yozakura family employee and a strong contender for a spot among the best secretly sinister female anime characters, volunteers to accompany Shinzo. Anticipating plenty of situational fun ahead, Kengo convinces Taiyo and Nanao to conduct a covert surveillance operation on Shinzo's unexpected date.
As we've seen with Shion's chaotic date with Kenji, being Yozakura means never having to face one's personal quirks alone—regardless of one's wishes. Despite Shinzo's insistence that he go to the mall without Taiyo, the Yozakura brothers direct their unparalleled expertise in stealth warfare where the world needs it most – Shinzo's personal life.
Shinzo's Dating Mess further drives the plot of the season
Interestingly, according to the manga, Chapter 98 follows Taiyo's successful completion of the Silver Rank Exam, as season 2 of Mission: The Yozakura family Anime adaptation has yet to come close. In this sense, episode 3 promises to be well worth watching, as we might just see the same smooth weaving of distant manga chapters as that of the new season premiere.
Undoubtedly, in episode 1, chapters 86 and 99 of the manga are mixed quite tastefully in a way that enriches the overall atmosphere of the family's healing from complex traumas. When it comes to episode 3, the same chapter-weaving magic would have to work with chapters 90 and 91 of the manga, where Shinzo acts as Taiyo's first examiner.
We are approaching the Silver Rank Exam
At this point, there doesn't seem to be any way Season 2 can dispense with the Silver Rank Exam arc. The jump in Episode 3 towards Chapter 98 where Taiyo moves up the Yozakura hierarchy tells us how likely we are to start seeing this arc's adaptation sooner than we think. In fact, the upcoming episode's focus on Shinzo could be the key to building a smooth transition towards the Silver Rank Exam arc.
After all, the previous two episodes of Season 2 have emphasized the underlying theme of Yozakura family members coming together to support a Yozakura going through a personal challenge of some sort. Whether it's Kyoichiro's temporary descent into childhood, Shion's quest to overcome his avoidant lifestyle, or Shinzo's impending dating disaster, this subtle theme remains. Not just placing it Mission: The Yozakura family among the best anime series for family viewing, but it also sets the perfect mood for the upcoming Silver Rank Exam.
According to chapters 90 to 97 of the manga, three Yozakura family members with Gold Rank status, that is Shinzo, Futaba, and Kyoichiro, challenge Taiyo during the Silver Rank exam. Meanwhile, Shion, Kengo, and Nanao support Taiyo with quick guidance that fills in the gaps in Taiyo's knowledge required to pass each examiner. Shinzo happens to be Taiyo's first formidable challenge on the road to Silver Rank status.

Is Slice-of-Life Bliss Coming To An End?
As the focus shifts to Shinzo in episode 3, we can very well expect his dorky-ho trigger-happy nature to get the best of him at some point. Likewise, with the Silver Rank Exam arc about to begin, we can be looking at even more action just around the corner. In this slow drift towards shinier scenes, it's only fair to wonder if the new season will continue to feel like one of the most heartwarming anime gems.
When that happens, Mission: The Yozakura family continues to prove that the slice-of-life and shonen genre can harmonize with each other very tastefully throughout the anime. As such, even though the season seems poised to pack more high-speed action along the way, the anime still belongs in the list of gems among the best anime that combine the shonen and slice-of-life genres.
