We have recently received some contradictory information about the last of us part 3 from Playstation. In 2021 we heard that a disposition for the game's script had been written, since 2024 director Neil Druckmann said in a documentary that Part 3 would not be Naughty Dog's next game, but a third part in the future was likely.
Now 2025 Druckmann has gone back a bit in an interview with Variety about the second season of the HBO adaptation by saying “I guess the only thing I would say is not to bet that there is more last of us. This could be.”
While information about a hypothetical Threequel is everywhere, a large part of me hopes that there is a revelation of the truth in Druckmann's latest statement.
If I would ever lose you
The last of us two Ellie Guitar bracelets
I love the last of us. The two games are some of my absolute favorites of all time, but I also think they tell a coherent and fully flowed story. If things end up with part 2, I would be completely satisfied.
The story that is told of both games is almost entirely on the relationship between Joel and Ellie and now that Joel is dead (spoilers) and Ellie has moved on (spoilers again, sorry) it feels like the story has reached its natural conclusion.
There are still places that a potential third game can go with Ellie's complicated relationship with your and their son, or so that the series can leave Ellie behind entirely and focus mainly on Abby and Lev in a completely different part of the country, but I feel to expand on those parts of the story, although it is probably interesting, simply not necessary.
One of the reasons why the last of us part 2 is so convincing is its end. It is a punch to the intestine that reason because of its finality when Ellie releases Joel and trauma that surrounds his death while he accepts that chasing the irrational thirst after revenge has removed everything she bark have been fighting for. When I think of a follow -up of Part 2 I often come back to the same question: What more can I want to have?
I would surely lose myself
Naughty Dog has one of the strongest identities in all studio working today and it will continue to make excellent games. I feel that when people talk about having more of the last of us, they often say they want more of Naughty Dog.
The last of us is good, but now that the series has gone its way and the last game ended on such a strong note, why not just look forward to what the future has?
Intergalactic: The heretic prophet was revealed at the 2024 game award and based on the short glimpse we got the game looks as if it will hit as hard as the last of us while exploring other central themes. For me, it is a much more interesting direction for the studio to go in.
Saying goodbye to the last of us does not mean say goodbye to Naughty Dog. The studio will still work with new, first -class titles for Playstation that will be just as good or even better than the last of us if the studio's current record of hits means something.
In addition, if you are sorry that there is no new last of us content, it sounds like we will receive at least two more seasons from the HBO adaptation based on what the show runners have said. There are plenty of the last of us walking around without a third game and with how well Naughty Dog bound things at the end of Part 2, I'm not even sure that most people actually want more. I really feel good about playing the games with a few years and dropping it. At least fans can expect both games to be remastered and submitted when PS6 hits the store shelves.
