World of Warcraft recently announced that Plunderstorm, the pirate-themed battle royale where 60 people descend on the Arathi Highlands to battle for supremacy and loot, returned on January 14th. World of Warcraft reveals new Twitch Drop for second Plunderstorm event
As Plunderstorm gets ready to sail back into World of Warcraft, Blizzard reveals that more free loot players can earn just by watching WoW on Twitch.
However, the second run of Plunderstorm has some new features World of Warcraft fans should be aware of. The battlefield itself has been revamped with several new points of interest and mobs, with all non-elite enemies respawning after a short time, providing endless sources of loot until the Storm swallows them. There are also horses that spawn around the map, giving players a way to quickly traverse the battlefield and find chests, elites, and opponents. What's more, the in-game map now shows the threat levels of each zone based on how often fights take place there, and even lets fans choose where they want to be dropped at the start of a game.

There are several new spells that players can collect and upgrade in this edition of Plunderstorm as well. For offensive spells, Aura of Zealotry gives a passive speed buff to the character and their team, and lets them cast Consecrate to create an area to damage enemies and buff allies, while Celestial Barrage is a long, chargeable lane attack. For utility, Call Galefeather allows fans to summon an eagle to knock back enemies from an area for a short time, while Void Tear teleports the user to a marked point, damaging and slowing enemies in the process. Cooldown tweaks for some existing spells and a new UI to help trade and retrieve abilities help keep things fresh.
There is also now a Plunderstorm Practice Lobby where players can try out abilities, fix their keybindings and transmogs, and socialize with others. Fans can queue for games or access the Plunderstore – the new location where Plunderstorm rewards are obtained in World of Warcraft – from the practice lobby, the login screen and even when you are in retail Wow itself via the PvP interface.
Curiously, the three-person Trios mode is nowhere to be found in this competition. It remains to be seen exactly why World of Warcraft didn't hold Trios in Plunderstorm, but hopefully Blizzard will add it back at some point before the game mode weighs anchor again.
