Important takeaways
- Megumi has the potential to rival Gojo with her Inherited Technique of Ten Shadows.
- Megumi can surpass Yuji's level if he inherits Sukuna's shrine and fully masters his abilities.
- Megumi's growth in strength, potential inheritance of the shrine, and mastery of techniques could make him the strongest modern wizard.
Jujutsu Kaisen's the ending saw the team of Yuji, Megumi, and Nobara all continue their paths as wizards and take the mantle from their Sensei, Gojo. It's safe to say that Yuji Itadori was crucial to the victory at the end, and he certainly made a change to defeat the King of Curses, Sukuna. It could be said that Yuji hit the next level of power during this fight and he made a solid case for himself as the strongest modern wizard after Gojo's death in JJK.

Jujutsu Kaisen: Yuji's Potential as the Next Sukuna, Explained
Yuji has immense power as JJK's main character. He has enough potential to reach Sukuna's level.
That said, there is certainly a challenge he faces from the likes of Yuta Okkotsu, and, surprisingly, Megumi Fushiguro as well. Looking at how much Megumi has grown recently, it can be said that he could potentially go on to become the strongest modern wizard, potentially even stronger than Yuji Itadori.
Megumi's potential to rival Gojo Satoru
- Megumi has the inherited technique of ten shadows
- Megumi could match Gojo
Megumi Fushiguro already had the potential to rival Gojo in the series. Being born into one of the three great families really allows him to reach these levels to a great extent. But even among those born within the three great families, Megumi was quite special. Megumi was born with the inherited cursed technology of the 10 shadows. This is a curse technique that not everyone in the Zenin family can inherit, and those who have been lucky enough to receive it gain the potential to reach incredibly high levels.
Do you understand what I'm trying to say? – Gojo
Megumi's potential to Equal Gojo
It can be said that Megumi has incredible levels of talent. In fact, Gojo explicitly stated that a long time ago, the two heads of the Gojo Family and the Zenin Family, who both inherited skills similar to Gojo and Megumi themselves, that is, the Limitless Technique and the Six Eyes, and the 10 Shadows Technique, respectively, fought and matched each other in battle. When these two fought a long time ago, the battle resulted in a draw and the death of both at the same time.
The implication here is that Megumi can equal Gojo in terms of power if he manages to use his skills correctly. The level of talent that Megumi is born with is not gifted to everyone. That said, talent alone cannot take Megumi to the next level. He must work hard and reach a level similar to that of Gojo and Sukuna. Megumi took this advice to heart and really worked incredibly hard.
It could be said that by the time of the Culling Game arc, Megumi had improved drastically in terms of strength. His control over the 10 Shadows technique had greatly improved, and even his half-baked Domain Expansion looked more menacing. But Megumi was far from the finished product, which meant there was a higher ceiling for him to reach and potentially even break through. The 10 Shadows technique alone could make Megumi the strongest modern wizard, provided he continues to master it. But Megumi can potentially reach a level even higher, and all of that is due to Sukuna actually taking over her body for a significant period of time.
The case of Megumi Fushiguro with shrine
Megumi Fushiguro might be able to use Sukuna's shrine
In Culling Game arc of Jujutsu KaisenMegumi Fushiguro was taken over by Sukuna. This was after Sukuna said the words “Enchain”, whereupon he took a bath that suppressed Megumi's soul. Although Sukuna benefited greatly from this switch, using Megumi's body actively meant that Megumi, due to muscle memory, remembered her movements while also becoming stronger. Sukuna's cursed energy seeped into Megumi's body, and this case was quite similar to that of Yuji himself. As fans know, Yuji was able to inherit the shrine from Sukuna because his energy seeped into his body heavily. Due to using the Shrine multiple times in Yuji's body, the muscle memory ensured that he remembered this technique well and used it in battle a lot when it truly awakened.
Winning by dying and winning even if you die are two completely different things! – Gojo
A similar case can be made for Megumi as well, although it has not been confirmed whether or not he can actually continue to use these powers. There is no reason for Megumi not to inherit the shrine if Yuji could do it. Of course, it could be said that Yuji could inherit the technique due to his blood connection with Sukuna, but this is not explicitly stated in the story, and there is every reason for Megumi to inherit this technique as well, given that even he could at least fight back against Sukuna.

Jujutsu Kaisen: Gojo Satoru's Fate at the End, Explained
Gojo died early in the Shinjuku Showdown arc by JJK. His end was a huge disappointment to fans.
If Megumi were also to inherit the shrine, then he would surely be the undisputed strongest in JJKprovided he fulfills his full potential. This would mean that Megumi has access to techniques like Malevolent Shrine, and even techniques like World Splitting Dismantle. The fact that Sukuna used all of these techniques in his body means that they should become easier for him once he starts training them. That is one of the great advantages of having Sukuna in the body.
At the same time, fans also know that Sukuna using the 10 Shadows technique in his body also strengthened him a lot. Megumi should be able to use techniques from Max Elephant similar to Piercing Blood, just like Sukuna did. He should be able to create Fusion Beast called Agito and at the same time use Mahoraga properly, this time much better than before. Megumi has every reason to be incredibly powerful once he fulfills his potential in JJK's future, and when that happens, he will truly be the strongest modern wizard.
Can Megumi be stronger than Yuji?
Megumi would be above Yuji's level with both shrine and 10 shadows
From the looks of it, Yuji is indeed stronger than Megumi, and there's no denying that fact. But Megumi can continue to reach a very high level if he fulfills his potential. All Megumi has to do is fully master the 10 Shadows technique, which includes bringing a stronger version of the Mahoraga that Sukuna used in the fight against Gojo, under control. Furthermore, Megumi would also need to master techniques such as the creation of the fusion Beast Agito, among many others. Once he controls all of these to perfection and meets the requirements for a perfect domain expansion, Megumi should be able to rival Yuji in terms of strength.
On top of that, Sukuna's moves imprinted in his body means that Megumi will be able to fight better than ever before. Add to that the possibility of him inheriting the shrine, and if that is indeed the case, then there is absolutely no denying the fact that he could actually go on to surpass even Yuji and become the strongest modern wizard, possibly approaching the levels of Gojo and Sukuna themselves.
Of course, fans don't know if they'll ever get to see this, as there is no planned sequel for JJK. But at least it's fun to theorize about Megumi's potential.
Jujutsu Kaisen's final chapter, JJK 271, was finally released on September 29, 2024. Fans can read the series on Manga Plus and Shonen Jump apps.
