Who is Yhwach in Bleach?

Ichigo Kurosaki encounters enemies of various races throughout the country Whiten anime. One of them is the Quicies, who are the Soul Reaper's sworn enemies. The enmity between both these races has existed for more than 1,000 years. Their past is bitter with tragedy and resentment on both sides.

Quincy King Yhwach wanted to change the very nature of the world where there was no home for Quincies. He lay dormant for a long time and wages war against the Soul Reapers. Yhwach completely destroyed Soul Society to further his goals. He can see into the future and because he can easily anticipate attacks, Yhwach is a tough opponent to reckon with.

Who are the Quincies?

Quincy is a race that has one bitter rivalry with the Soul Reapers. They have been at war with them since time immemorial, and both sides have suffered several casualties. Unlike Soul Reapers, Quincies are people and dwell among the living.

Unlike Soul Reapers who purged Hollows, so they could pass on as a soul to the afterlife. Quincies believe in complete eradication of cavitiesand believe that they do not deserve redemption because of the atrocities they commit.

Quincies use a variety of equipment such as the cross, which allows them to take control of the Reshi needed for their offensive abilities.

Quincies use spiritual power to conjure bows, and they seem to be well versed in attack from long distances.

In addition to bows, they are also sometimes seen using a sword or a sniper. The members of Sternritter seems to have different abilities depending on their aptitude, inclusive teleportation, regeneration and explosion.

There were two types of Quincies, namely the pure blooded ones called Echts, and the Gemischt who were mixed breeds as many of them married into Japanese families.

Why were the Quincies extinct?

The soul balance between the three worlds, namely Hueco Mundo, Soul Society and The Human World, was the key to sustaining them.

When the Quincies completely killed the Hollows, they risked eradicating the worlds. Because of their aggressive attitude, they rulers of Soul Society felt it was a necessity to have them removed.

The Quincies also declined all attempts to negotiate when approached by the Soul Reapers to only let them deal with the Hollows.

These events occurred about 200 years ago in Bleach. After the disaster, more discussions were held to find common ground.

The Quincies proposed deal with the hollows of the earth without exterminating themso the Soul Reapers can take care of them when they come. According to them, this will reduce the damage caused by Hollows.

But this time the deal fell through because of the Soul Reaper's actions, because they refused to participate because of the resentment they felt about it the loss of life in the last war. After all, some Quincies managed to survive in the human world, even though their race was almost wiped out.

Who is Yhwach?

Major spoilers for Bleach: Thousand Year Blood war ahead, so read at your leisure if you haven't caught up on the anime.

Yhwach is the king of all the Quinciesand he is also the source of all the powers they possess. He can willingly take the powers he gave them.

Apparently he is son of the soul kingwhich explains his strength and control over Reshi. Since his blood is a part of every Quincy, humans have a hard time opposing him, as he can control their bodies.

He is one of the most cruel villains in the series, which was shown when he quickly reducing Soul Society to rubble.

Yhwach was in a dormant state after being defeated by Yamamoto; 1,000 years later he came back and started a great war.

He hated the state of the worlds his father createdso he wanted to destroy three existing worlds and unite them into a single world.

To this end, he killed the Soul King by using Ichigo's body. His world would too acknowledge the existence of Quinciesa race that faced difficulties due to the Soul Society.

Yhwach has assigned various letters to his members of the Sternritter. This made it possible for him transfer much of their power to their loyal followers.

He has assigned himself the letter A denoting “The Almighty”. Yhwach possesses great power and this ability allows him to see the future of the world. However, he doesn't seem to be able to foresee any unexpected things.
