Fans of Tomodachi life should be aware that there are knock-off apps pretending to be the game on Google Play. The apps apparently tricked a number of players into hoping they would be able to play Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream on a device other than the Nintendo Switch, on which it is exclusively available.
While many gamers these days want to see more console exclusives on systems like the Xbox and PlayStation, there is a downside to them. With the three typical console players, namely Nintendo, Microsoft and Sony, always having at least one current generation console available for sale, gamers are often limited to buying just one or two, leaving them looking at exclusives they can't play with envy and frustration. These knock-off apps likely take advantage of that demographic, among others.

Tomodachi Life: Living The Dream Reveals Update 1.0.2 Patch Notes

Rip-offs of Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream appear on Google Play
Now apps claim to be official Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream the game has now appeared in the Google Play Store. The two apps, titled “My Tomodachi Dream Life” and “Tomodachi Life Living the Dream” are both currently available on the service, specifically copying images and promotional material directly from the official Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream games for Nintendo Switch. However, none of them have any official connection with Nintendo, and players should avoid downloading them.

While many players would likely see a scam like this and recognize it as one right away, not everyone has been so discerning. At the time of publication, the two apps have over 50,000 downloads each. It is likely that most of these downloads have been made by children and non-gamers who do not know that the title is exclusively available on the Nintendo Switch. To make matters worse, both copycat apps indicate that microtransactions are available in the game, ranging from $9.99 in price to as much as $54.99. With any luck, those who downloaded the apps quickly realized they were fakes and didn't spend any money.
Surprisingly, both of these apps have lived on in the Google Play Store since mid-May 2026. Fans know that Nintendo is very protective of its intellectual property and has a history of being litigious, so it's likely only a matter of time before these games are caught and taken down. However, it is unfortunate that Google Play did not detect the copyrighted artwork and titles of the games and put a stop to them before they were ever made available to the public. They are certainly not the only scam games offered by the apps' publishers, with a notable rip-off of The Sims 4 is also uploaded by one of them.

thankfully, Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream is not a Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive, so those who own one of the over 155 million original Nintendo Switch systems can play it without issue. Those looking for a similar life sim experience on Google Play might want to check it out Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp Completewhich is officially available on Android devices. Although not identical, the two game series have often been compared, with cozy vibes and a cartoony art style present in both.
