While many Epic Games Store users had already turned their attention to the free game on April 23, they have until that date to pick up an unexpected freebie from the digital storefront. Said game – Undead: Rise of the Betrayed King — Normally carries a price tag of $20, but is currently being offered to Epic Games Store users at the unbeatable price of free.
Not only did this week's EGS freebie drop yesterday, April 16th, because it's the stealth game The Stone of Madnessbut the next match was also confirmed. Come April 23, when The Stone of Madness rotates out, the new free game offered through Epic's Marketplace will be Doomblade. A 2D action metroidvania, this game is very different from not only The Stone of Madnessbut the bonus game is offered alongside it. Before Doomblade temporarily removing its price tag, fans of realistic action RPGs will want to pick up Undead: Rise of the Betrayed King.
Epic Games Store officially reveals unique free game for April 16th
The Epic Games Store is announcing its giveaway on April 16th while also officially launching a separate PC freebie available in the meantime.
What is Undead: Rise of the Betrayed King about?
For those curious about this bonus freebie that may have slipped under the radar, the game's EGS page does a good job of summarizing its contents. The story sees players take control of the last golden dragon, who has disguised himself as a human barbarian but continues to be hunted due to his true form. At the same time, they will try to protect a world that hates them from an undead threat. With the game built on Unreal Engine 5, this world should be truly immersive, with areas players visit ranging from villages to crypts and forests.
Undead: Rise of the Betrayed Kings combat will mix melee attacks and dragon magic, with frost spears, fiery explosions, and shock waves listed as some of the attacks the player character will wield. Players will be able to upgrade their strength and magic stats while mastering weapons, and they'll even get to bring allies along for the ride, as some sort of companion system is on the list.
Undead: Rise of the Betrayed King sounds really promising on paper, but it's important to note that it's described as an early game on EGS. As of now, the only content it has to offer is the following:
-
The first chapter of the story
-
A mountable animal
-
A companion (and their story)
-
Dungeons
-
A small part of the dragon game
-
Kingdom of Edrikia
This is apparently only 10% of the story (there will be 10 kingdoms in the final game) and 1 of 35 companions. A swimming system for the player character and their mounts will also be added. With the price tag expected to increase as the game leaves early access, and monthly updates dropping over two years that will continue to add depth to Undead: Rise of the Betrayed Kingplayers should not miss the chance to get it while they can.

With progress saved for each update, Undead: Rise of the Betrayed King may be the gift that keeps on giving. As previously mentioned, the game runs on April 23rd when Doomblade will be the EGS freebie, so players should be careful not to miss their chance.
