When you're diving into a new gacha and just getting used to its characters and mechanics, you might not always be clamoring for the highest characters, but thankfully Neverness to Everness has some pretty good options for free-to-play Espers!
Whether it's picking the right S-Tier character from the Character Selector or keeping your fingers crossed that the best A-Tier Espers can build their Awakenings quickly to stack them with all kinds of bonuses, here are our picks for the eight best characters in NTE at launch. More coming soon, but these are our early favorites!
Ski
|
Element |
Lakshana |
|
Type of bow |
Gas |
|
Combat role |
Damage |
Skia is one of the better free Espers in Neverness to Everness because he is only free Lakshana character in-game at launch. Hathor is also a Lakshana Esper, but with her being an S-class character and therefore harder to draw by default, Skia is a great character that is relatively easy to build until you get her.

Neverness To Everness Preview: One of the most ambitious Gacha games I've ever played
Neverness To Everness raises the bar for gacha games – we are in the golden age of a gacha.
Silent and mysterious, Skia can easily be built for early game teams, and he will make a great fourth spot in plenty of good lineups that also use S-Class Espers. If you need a mix of elements, he is almost always suitable to be your guy.
Zero
|
Element |
Cosmos |
|
Type of bow |
Fixed |
|
Combat role |
Damage |
As far as gacha game protagonists go, Zero is one of the stronger ones out there right now, regardless of whether you chose the male or female build for them. Arriving in Hethereau from space and consigned to the care of the Bureau of Anomaly Investigations, this Cosmos-wielding protag is a strong early game selection.
Pair them with Mint for an almost instant boost, but you'll also find that Zero fits well into most teams if you need a fourth to round things out. You will replace them in time as you almost always do in gacha games, but they are worth building early if you plan on using them!
Aurelia
|
Element |
Psyche |
|
Type of bow |
Plasma |
|
Combat role |
Damage |
Aurelia is not only one of the characters you can routinely get from lower levels in the Scarborough Fair gacha minigame, she is also a free character at launch as a login bonus. This means that if you've already drawn Aurelia on your own, you'll get a free Awakening for her on your third day in the game!
She and her jellyfish are primary DPS units together, working with striking precision and truly impressive speed on the battlefield to dish out a dizzying amount of damage. With Aurelia, she deals multiple minor damage to ambush the enemies on the field with blows they can barely dodge.
Haniel
|
Element |
Psyche |
|
Type of bow |
Fixed |
|
Combat role |
Buff |
If you're all set on DPS characters and are ready with a solid offense for the missions ahead in Neverness to Everness but don't quite know how to round out the team, Haniel will always be a good choice due to her consistent buffs which we're sure you'll be able to use in battle.

Neverness To Everness: All Free Codes
If you're new to Neverness To Everness, you can redeem these codes to get a head start on some free rewards.
A good fight isn't always about direct damage, but being smart with your defense and buffs as well, and Haniel serves just that purpose in NTE. Your strongest S-Class Espers will benefit immensely from having their attack stats boosted in such a powerful and consistent manner.
Adler
|
Element |
Incantation |
|
Type of bow |
Synthesis |
|
Combat role |
Survival |
The third F2P character you unlock when you first start playing NTE, Adler is a good choice for your team because he is built to last in battleserves as a wonderfully strong tank character that can withstand most anything you throw at him in a fight. While not a damage dealer himself, he plays an important role in your best team comps.
That's because Adler has it powerful shields which can help the whole team and a relatively impressive damage over time attack that comes with it, so if you need a little more reassurance that your team will make it, trust Adler in a pinch.
daffodil
|
Element |
CHAOS |
|
Type of bow |
Liquid |
|
Combat role |
Damage |
While she's only technically free if you use your S-Class Esper pick from the default board at the Scarborough Fair gacha minigame to pick her as a freebie, Daffodil is still one of the better picks because she's only chaos character in-game at launch.
While the other Espers from the free S-Class selection at the Scarborough Fair are always good choices, they aren't nearly as unique at launch as Daffodil is. She plays extremely well with several of the other S-Class Espers as well, so she will scale with most teams and be useful for longer.
Mint
|
Element |
Animate |
|
Type of bow |
Liquid |
|
Combat role |
Damage |
Since she's the second free-to-play character you get in Neverness to Everness past the protagonist Zero, Mint be with you the longestmeaning you'll have that much more time to roll doubles of her in Scarborough Fair and build her up into an Esper well worth putting on your strongest team comps.
She plays naturally with Zero as well, with the pair serving as a staggeringly powerful F2P duo for nearly every team in NTE. Throw in a third element with them to make a real stir on the battlefield with such a combination!
