The Latest Dungeon Crawler Carl Gaming News (April 2026)

As part of the genre Literary RPG (LitRPG) is Dungeon Crawler Carl the series draws heavily from video games. As they travel through the eighteen-story dungeon in an attempt to regain control of Earth, Carl and his friends can gain classes, open loot boxes, learn new skills and abilities, and more.

Since the LitRPG genre is so closely tied to gaming, it's no wonder that Dungeon Crawler Carl the series will get several spinoff games. Even then, there is still a lot of untapped potential beyond what has been announced and confirmed so far.

The best developer for a Dungeon Crawler Carl game is already ready

With Dungeon Crawler Carl quickly expanding into media other than print, there's a developer that would be perfect for a video game adaptation.

TTRPG and card games have been fully funded

The partnership between developer Renegade Game Studios and Dungeon Crawler Carl writer Matt Dinniman was announced in July 2025. The studio planned to develop a tabletop role-playing game set in the World Dungeon, as well Unstoppable, a deck building game that supports both solo and co-op play. Renegade used the crowdfunding site Backerkit to fund the project. It launched with an initial goal of $250,000, but raised over eight million dollars, 4.5 million of that in a single day.

The project hit dozens of stretch goals and unlocked bonuses like miniatures, pre-generated characters, art prints, and an “RPG Season Pass” filled with tons of exciting content. The project is still available to back for about two more weeks, as of this writing, with backers able to choose between buying TTRPG, Unstoppable, or both. Lots of add-ons are also available for purchase, such as a GM display, a character journal, miniatures, play mats and dice bags based on designs including Carl's iconic boxers. The Dungeon Crawler Carl games definitely ranks among the most successful crowdfunding campaigns of all time.

Will likely immediately join the list of “best non-Dungeons and dragons TTRPGs,” the Dungeon Crawler Carl Tabletop RPG lets players create their own Crawler or play as pre-existing characters like Carl, Princess Donut, Florin DuPont and more. The game focuses heavily on character customization, with the rulebook even including options for players to design their own class, skill set, or background. Features include:

  • Over 30 races, classes, subclasses and backgrounds to choose from.

  • Both a crafting system and a lootbox system to get a variety of items.

  • Lots of mobs and bosses to fight, increasing in difficulty floor by floor, just like in the book series.

  • Dozens of NPCs from across the series, including some of the gods Carl and his allies encounter in later books and, of course, the increasingly glitchy System AI, which oversees the entire dungeon.

The starter set contains floors 1 and 2, the “Tutorial Floors”, from the first book, Dungeon Crawler Carl. The Core Rulebook focuses on floors 3–5 of the dungeon, which Carl conquers in the second, third, and fourth books of Dungeon Crawler Carl book series (Carl's Doomsday Scenario, The Dungeon Anarchist's Cookbook, and Gate of the Wild Gods). Future updates to the TTRPG will hopefully cover the later floors of the dungeon as Carl encounters them. A parade of horrors, the next book in the series, launching on May 12, 2026, will see Crawler and his friends tackle floors 10 and 11. Renegade has confirmed that they plan to regularly add to the game via the RPG seasons, the first of which will run throughout 2026 and early 2027.

Complete missions and take down bosses in Unstoppable

The other one Dungeon Crawler Carl game funded via Backerkit, Unstoppable is a deck-building title with over 200 cards in the base version. It's about completing quests and facing threats like boss monsters on different floors of the World Dungeon. It currently consists of a base game covering floors 1–3, the “Iron Tangle” expansion centered around the industrial maze on floor 4, and the “Crawler Chaos” expansion, which adds fan-favorite Crawlers such as Imani, Archie, and Prepotente. It will let fans of the highly successful LitRPG series immerse themselves in Carl's world like never before.

Unstoppable can be played in both Arcade Mode, perfect for one-shots, and Campaign Mode, which allows players to tell an ongoing story as they progress through the World Dungeon. It works as a solo game but can also be played in co-op with another Crawler. The villainous gameplay elements of Carl's Journey are represented by players changing their skill loadout and acquiring new items and abilities as they progress through the game, building as powerful a deck as possible. Unstoppable also has four levels of difficulty, allowing Dungeon Crawler Carl fans to really challenge themselves just like Carl does in every step of his adventure.

The Backerkit campaign for the two games will officially end on May 15, with Renegade Studios currently estimating a fulfillment date of October 2026. Considering how many people pledged and how many different types of rewards and bonuses were unlocked, it's not surprising that it will take a while for the studio to get everything delivered. It gives Dungeon Crawler Carl fans plenty of time to read or listen to A parade of horrors between the launch on May 12 and the debut of the games in October.

Will there be a Dungeon Crawler Carl video game?

Currently, there are no announced plans for one Dungeon Crawler Carl tie-in video games. But fans of the series have hope that such a game can be planned for the future, given that Dungeon Crawler Carl the series draws so much from a variety of genres, from roguelike dungeon crawlers (of course) to open world adventures and even card battlers like Pokemon. It's even possible that writer Matt Dinniman is already in talks with potential developers for one DCC video game, but nothing has been confirmed at this time.

However, there are plenty of exciting ones Dungeon Crawler Carl-related projects underway. In addition to the upcoming launch of A Parade of Horribles, an ongoing webtoon is having a rethink Carl's adventure in graphic novel format. A spinoff graphic novel focusing on crocodilian ex-mercenary Florin Du Pont was also successfully funded via Backerkit, and a TV show is in development for streaming platform Peacock in partnership with Fuzzy Door Productions. Carl fans have plenty to keep them busy in 2026 and beyond. But hopefully a Dungeon Crawler Carl Spinoff video games are also on the horizon, as it would be the perfect addition to Carl's already heavily gamified world.
