The Jujutsu Kaisen officially establishes the return of a Gojo member

Jujutsu Kaisen is one of the most popular manga and anime series in the entire world. The original manga by Gege Akutami ended on September 30, 2024 in Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump Issue #44. But the franchise has continued in exciting ways since then. Gege Akutami, the original creator, returned with another great sequel Jujutsu Kaisen 2025, called Jujutsu Kaisen: Moduloalong with artist Yuji Iwasaki in the process. Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo takes place 68 years after the Sukuna Raid, and even though it's a short manga, it adds a lot of exposure to the beautiful world of Jujutsu Kaisen.

IN Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo Chapter 17, officially released on January 4, 2026, a new exciting mystery was created by the author as he officially explored the disappearance of Iori Okkotsu. Iori Okkotsu is the son of Yuta and Maki Zenin, and the father of Yuka and Tsurugi. He disappeared 16 years ago, but he may return in the future, considering he is an extremely important member of the Gojo clan with a distaste for how weak wizards became after the fall of Ryomen Sukuna.

Before Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo even started we knew that Yuta Okkotsu had at least one child. This information was revealed through the Jujutsu Kaisen one-shot that came with the Jujutsu Kaisen Volume 30 release in Japan on December 26, 2025. Yuta Okkotsu's grandchildren, Yuka and Tsurugi Okkotsu were officially revealed in this chapter. Since Yuta had grandchildren, we were intrigued by ideas about his own children. Over a year after this one-shot, Gege Akutami officially explored this idea in Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo Chapter 17 and revealed the identity of this mysterious child.

“Compared to my grandparents' generation, he became alarmed at how little strength there was among the Jujutsu wizards of his own generation and those below it, and he finally snapped.” — Tsurugi Okkotsu on Iori, Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo Chapter #17

This mystery was also expanded upon in Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo Volume 1 via a genealogical chart of the Okkotsu family, showing that Yuta Okkotsu had a son with Maki Zenin. This son's name was Iori Okkotsu, and he was a prominent member of the Gojo clan, set to become its next head after Yuta Okkotsu and the second head after Gojo Satoru. Unsurprisingly, instead of answers, big questions immediately began to emerge about him. Iori mysteriously disappeared 16 years ago, after the birth of Yuka Okkotsu, his daughter. Towards the end of Jujutsu Kaisen: Modulo, Gege Akutami also revealed his full character design, specifically in Modulo Chapter 17, on January 4, 2026. Iori, who is the son of Yuta, looks exactly like his father, with a hint of Zenin traits coming through his mother. While the Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo is already over, the mystery of this particular Gojo clan member remains, and sooner or later Gege Akutami will have to deal with it and explain exactly what happened to him and where he is right now.

The disappearance of Iori Okkotsu is one of the biggest new mysteries introduced by Gege Akutami in the Jujutsu Kaisen lore. He disappeared the same year his daughter was born, which raises many questions about whether this disappearance could be connected to her in any way. Anyway, we get some clues about his disappearance Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo Chapter 17. In this chapter, Iori Okkotsu was revealed to have great concerns about the current state of wizards. Unlike the generation of his parents Yuta and Maki, most wizards of his generation were weak.

“Just before he disappeared, a maid saw my father lash out at a hood with a scar on his face.” — Tsurugi Okkotsu, Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo Chapter #17

With these concerns in mind, he was seen reaching out to Yuji Itadori. The two had a discussion before Iori disappeared. This led many to believe that Yuji is connected to his disappearance in some way or form. In the latest edition of Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo Volume 3 on May 1, 2026, Gege Akutami officially confirmed that Iori Okkotsu was last seen in an uninhabited part of Tokyo with Cursed Spirits. It is very possible that Iori's depression from the current state of the wizarding world led him to ask Yuji Itadori to mentor him. It is also possible that Iori went to Tokyo to train himself by exorcising powerful cursed spirits.

With the Gojo Clan lore still not fully worked out and Iori Okkotsu still alive and walking in Tokyo, he can still potentially redeem himself for abandoning his family 16 years ago. His own daughter, Yuka Okkotsu, has now become immensely powerful, while Tsurugi has been greatly strengthened thanks to Rika as well. Given that his main problem with the new generation is their weakness, Iori has every reason to make a comeback as the new head of the Gojo clan.

Iori Okkotsu is probably Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo's most mysterious character at the moment. Very little information about him has been revealed by this supposedly missing head of the Gojo clan. The only thing Gege confirmed in the last volume was that he married a woman named Mifuyu, had two children, Tsurugi and Yuka, and then disappeared, last seen in Tokyo with cursed spirits. A lot of this Gojo head needs to be explored in the series, and while Gege Akutami has already stated that he intended Modulo to be a short serialization, a continuation is clearly needed, even if only in the form of a one-shot. Fans can't wait to learn more about this anomaly within the Gojo clan.

Considering that he is the successor to Yuta as the head of the Gojo clan and has a direct connection to Gojo Satoru himself, he could even have possessed the cursed technique Limitless. Yuta is related to Gojo Satoru through an ancestor, an ancient wizard known as Michizane Sugawara. In that sense, the Gojo blood flows through Iori's veins, and it is not impossible to get hold of Limitless. Also, Yuta's brain likely had Limitless engraved on it when he was in Gojo's body, further increasing the chances of Iori having Limitless.

“You are apparently a descendant of Michizane Sugawara. It may be distant, but we are related.” — Gojo explains the blood ties between him and Yuta Okkotsu.

Most importantly, we know he was disgusted by the weakness of the modern era, and for anyone to have such feelings, it's only natural to expect a high level of strength. Iori has the blood of two absolute monsters flowing through his veins, as well as the potential technology of a former strongest. All in all, his return is necessary for Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo makes perfect sense, and we can't wait to see what Gege does with his character.
