Death comes to everyone and everything, and that extends to certain types of video games. Amidst the Stop Killing Games movement and the intense debate over ownership, publishers continue to put their multiplayer projects out to pasture, shut down the servers of once-beloved titles no longer deemed to warrant support. June marks the end (or beginning of the end) for a couple of big games in massive franchises, or at least the closure of their online portion.
If you can tap into fond memories of playing these games and would like to jump back in for one last match, you have no time left to waste. Fire up your console or Steam account and relive the glory days one last time. These releases entertained millions for the better part of a decade, and their story will come to an end in the coming days.

Call of Duty Warzone begins shutting down PS4 and Xbox One on June 4
Removed from stores on June 4th, with full sunset on October 23rd
Over the next few months, Activision will be phased out Call of Duty Warzone from life support, at least the PS4 and Xbox One versions. Completed in steps, this process starts June 4when players will no longer be able to download War zone from the PS and Xbox stores (for these versions). On June 25, War zone is shutting down its in-game stores, though it won't affect the free Battle Pass. Once Modern Warfare 4 starts on October 23, War zone becomes unplayable on PS4 and Xbox One.
COD points must be redeemed by June 25, at least on PS4 and Xbox One.
As we saw with cross-gen games like Genshin Impactthere comes a time when it no longer makes sense to support outdated versions, either due to a dwindling player base or because the hardware cannot handle newer updates. PS4 and Xbox One players can continue their current ones War zone experience and access content purchased through COD points by playing on PC or more modern systems, as long as they use the same Activision account.

Call of Duty: Warzone will soon be unplayable for millions of players
Millions of players will soon be unable to play Call of Duty: Warzone, one of the most popular Battle Royales in the world.
F2P MMORPG Closers Sunsets its global release on June 24th
An 11-year-old game is writing its last international chapter
Although not a big name in North America and Europe, Closer is the most preserved game in this article. The free-to-play action RPG launched in South Korea in 2014 and got off to a strong start, but it seemed to struggle to cultivate a large, consistent community, never quite transitioning from niche to mainstream. Despite debuting in late 2017, the English Steam version never found its footing, with its peak player count being just over 2,000. July 2022 was the last time Closer cracked more than 200 concurrent players on Steam, though it may have been more successful on mobile devices.
From the bottom of our hearts, we thank all of you who have joined and supported Closers World over the years.
Technically I am part of the problem when I dropped out Closer after a while. That said, Naddic put together a fun and stylish game that had pretty good combat, especially for an online RPG. The RPG supported solo play, with the episodic campaign designed for solo players who don't mind a grind. In a way it paved the way for the likes of Genshin Impactalthough it never had that level of success. Only the international version should be shut down, as the South Korean version continues to be supported.
EA is shutting down Battlefield Hardline's console servers on June 22nd
Hardline goes offline on PS4 and Xbox One
PS4 and Xbox One players will lose access to another massive shooter's online features, with Battlefield Hardline shutting down its servers on June 22nd. This date comes exactly one month after Hard lines removal from the PlayStation and Xbox stores, and EA confirmed that none of this affects the PC version. While they will no longer be able to go online, owners will continue to have access to the single-player content, preserving Battlefield Hardlines value due to the offline content being decent and substantial (for an online focused shooter).

Every battleground game, ranked
Battlefield 6 is out! But where does it rank among the best Battlefield games in EA's franchise? First?
Lately EA seems to be doing these types of Battlefield announcements annually, as games that Bad company 2 and Battlefield 4 also lost console support (and the former's PC servers were also sunset). Unfortunately, EA sometimes removes games when it shuts down servers, making them much harder to pick up for their single player campaigns.
Just put this spin-off out of its misery
Although not too many people's favorite The Elder Scrolls game, Leaf' closure still feels like a big deal, just because of the name recognition. The game launched in 2020 to a pretty terrible reception and went into maintenance mode within about two years, suggesting that Bethesda had more or less decided to move on from the spin-off. Release an open world for linear missions, Leaf suffered from many of the traditional traits of free-to-play mobile releases: it was fueled by the power of microtransactions.
After removing it from stores a few months ago, Bethesda will shut down Blade's servers on June 30, ending one of The Elder Scrollsleast successful branching attempts. As nice as it would be for the content to be preserved in some form or another, the game has been knocking on death's door for basically its entire existence. Eventually the Grim Reaper must answer.
