The easiest mounts to get in FF14

Final Fantasy 14 mounts are considered by many to be status symbols in the game. Mounts are one of the best ways to show off your character to other players. As is usually the case with MMOs, there are different types of mounts to collect in Eorzea. The easiest mounts to stock up on should be on everyone's list, so grabbing them as soon as you can is a must for any Warrior of Light.

Accessorizing is strategizing. So making sure your glamours are complemented by your mount is also a must for any head-turning Warrior of Light. Variety is key, so settling for just your regular Chocobo may not always work. This is especially true for those who don't have time to grind Savage level difficulty trials. These are some of the best and easiest mounts to collect.

Updated on September 27, 2024 by Jon Eakin: Final Fantasy 14 continues to be one of the greatest MMOs in the genre, and arguably one of the most important entries in the title series. Over the years, the game has introduced a veritable menagerie of mounts, so we've given this article new features and entries to help you find the next mount to add to your collection.

12 Chocobo

The original

The Legacy Chocobo Mount in Final Fantasy 14.

It would be a crime not to talk about what is possibly the best Final Fantasy character of all time, the humble Chocobo. It's a mainstay of the series and the very first mount you get access to in Final Fantasy 14.

Although you can unlock other mounts before the Chocobo, you won't be able to use them until you get your Chocobo via the main quest. This happens in A Realm Reborn, so just playing the game will quickly provide you with your feathered friend.

11 Flying chair

Travel in comfort

The flying chair mount soars through the air in Final Fantasy 14.

The Flying Chair is exactly what it sounds like, a comfortable armchair that you can float around in while lying comfortably back. It can be acquired without too much trouble as carpenters can make this mount.

You can make it yourself, but it is much easier to buy it from the market. The flying chair is usually one of the cheapest mounts out there, so you should be able to pull it up without breaking the bank.

10 Unicorn

Consolation Prize for a Life in Healing

A Lalafel in Final Fantasy 14 riding a unicorn through a field of flowers.

Are you dying to ride around Eorzea in the most majestic way possible? Then look no further than the Unicorn. Being a functional healer is a thankless task in Final Fantasy 14, so those dedicated enough to level a Conjurer class to 30 are rewarded as such with a cute Unicorn.

The path to Unicorn majesty is unlocked after completing the Unicorn Power side quest as a level 30 wizard. A Unicorn Whistle is then granted when the mission is complete. Using this item summons the Unicorn mount and permanently adds it to your mount list. Easy.

9 Jonas Achievement Mounts

Behemoth, Ahriman and Magitek Deathclaw

A magitek deathclaw holding a red belly in a dungeon in Final Fantasy 14.

Many new players may miss Jonathas, the NPC who helps you exchange your earned achievements in the game for rewards. Jonathas can be found in Old Gridania (X:10.6 Y:6.3).

There you can exchange achievement certificates including, and not limited to: Behemoth Warhorn to summon the mighty Behemoth Mountain; a Magitek Death Claw Identification Key that gives you access to a Death Claw; and Voidal Resonator to summon your very own Ahriman mount. Simply By playing through the main scenario you will eventually get enough achievements for all of these.

8 Dhal flour

Cheap Thrills

A Roegadyn riding a dhalmel, a giraffe-like creature, in Final Fantasy 14.

The market board is an interesting place for those who want to take part in goods and other user-sold items. Surprisingly, and with enough Gil, mount collectors can find plenty of mounts for sale here. A notable mention is Dhalmel Mountain.

Although market prices vary significantly between servers, we've never heard of this costing more than a couple of hundred grand. And it might sound like a lot at first, but in due course? Not so much.

7 Cavalry Drake

A fiery dragon for cheap

A cavalry dragon that breathes fire in Final Fantasy 14.

Completing beast tribe quests is an easy way to build up your mount library. A cool one is the Cavalry Drake mount, which can be purchased for 120,000 Gil after reaching the Trusted rank with Amalj'aa.

Sure, that might sound like a lot of Gil for a single mount, but is it really not worth that much to ride around on a literal fire-breathing dragon? After all, it breathes fire and walks on all fours. The Cavalry Drake can be appreciated by any fan of the lizard-like aesthetic for mounts.

6 Bomb Palanquin Mount

Floating In Style

A palanquin held aloft by bomb monsters in Final Fantasy 14.

Not a fan of riding majestic looking dragons? Maybe a bomb-laden throne is more your style? This mount requires a bit more work but is still fairly easy to obtain:

  • Find the Kobold quest giver in the 789th Order Dig in Outer La Noscea (x21, y18).
  • Complete the Highway Robbery mission.
  • Reach Trusted reputed rank four.
  • Buy the Bomb Palanquin Mount for 120,000 Gil.

After picking up this mount, you'll get to glide lavishly around Eorzea in your very own personal chair pulled by bombs.

5 Magitek Armor

They are flying now

A Black Mage riding the Magitek Armor mount in Final Fantasy 14.

After completing Final Fantasy 14's Main Scenario Quest, you'll have the chance to own your very own Magitek Armor Mount to exclusively stomp around in style. Marching through the Quest for A Realm Reborn main scenario and completing The Ultimate Weapon quest will reward players with this neat mount.

Another notable mention: when you receive this mount, you'll also gain the ability to fly with all mounts; you get your very own flying Magitek Armor

4 Black Chocobo

Heaven's Ward

A black chocobo standing against the Northern Lights in Final Fantasy 14.

Another main scenario Quest grab, or as we like to call them, the easiest mounts of all, the Black Chocobo is yours very early on in the Heavensward expansion. Back in the day, this was doubly impressive as it served as an introduction to flying.

Courtesy of the mid-Shadowbringer lifecycle introducing flight to ARR, that's no longer the case, but hey. Still, you can get a Black Chocobo completely free just by playing the game, which isn't too bad at all.

3 Midgard Serpent

How to Train Your Elderly

The Midgard Serpent mount flies in front of Tiamat in Final Fantasy 14.

Nothing beats flying around on the back of a kite. Unlike other mounts earned within the Main Scenario Quest, Midgardsormr's respect is earned through your heroic deeds in the story, so the mount feels slightly more earned than previous story-earned mounts.

Midgard Serpent, known to all as the Father of Dragons, eventually finds you worthy enough to carry on his back. So, don't miss it. Because frankly, that would be rude.

2 Cloud mallow

Fluffy Bliss

The Cloud Mallow mount in front of a blue sky with shining sunlight.

You can't go through MSQ for it, but Cloud Mallow is still a damn good mount for a relatively easy, if time-consuming, bravery.

After achieving Sworn, which is the Rank Seven reputation mark of the Moogle Beast Tribe, you will be given the opportunity to rest your weary toes atop Cloud Mallow Mount and float off into the sunset of Eorzea. The Cloud Mallow Mount can be summoned after purchasing Cloud Mallow Seeds for 200,000 Gil from Mogmul Mogbelly from that point forward.

1 Argos

Best boy

A Lalafel riding the Air Force Mount through a stormy sky in Final Fantasy 14.

We're skipping ahead all the way to the Endwalker scene in the Main Scenario Quest now, so needless to say, you'll need to have played Final Fantasy 14 for a few hundred hours before this adorable and temporary golden retriever can be yours. But Argos is an instant pickup, a reward that's yours for continuing through MSQ. No bells, no whistles, no credit report required.

You'll even get to experience what it's like to ride high in the sky aboard a sweet dog long before he's yours forever, though you won't be able to direct him at that point. Dogs have a mind of their own, you know.
