The case for and against a new school of magic

The Elder Scrolls' The World of Tamriel has a huge potential for magic, but it only has a limited number of schools of magic, especially in Skyrim. Then Tamriel and the world of The Elder Scrolls generally have a great magical potential, including a new school of magic should not be too far outside the scope of the potential for The Elder Scrolls 6, especially after a lot of Skyrims magic was limited compared to previous entries in the The Elder Scrolls.

While Skyrim already contained a number of spells that were neatly classed in schools of magic, The Elder Scrolls 6 has the chance to take the magic baked into the foundation of every plane of Tamriel and define entirely new forms and schools of magic from it. This can allow players to reach new heights when interacting with the world on a magical level, in mundane or powerful ways. Alternatively The Elder Scrolls 6 could instead focus on expanding their already established schools of magic, such as the School of Conjuration, which has a lot of potential, but didn't really reach Skyrim.

Two popular playstyles shouldn't be an afterthought in The Elder Scrolls 6

Two of the most popular playstyles in Skyrim were underpowered at launch and need to get the love they deserve with The Elder Scrolls 6.

The Elder Scrolls 6 will likely take place in a new part of Tamriel compared to previous games. Each province of the Empire has its own culture and history, and including unique magical training and traditions would be compatible with The Elder Scrolls lore. As The Elder Scrolls 6 will take place in a new part of Tamriel, it would be a great opportunity to introduce a new school of magic that could possibly be unique to the province and culture.

As Skyrims magic system was streamlined, The Elder Scrolls 6 need only look at their previous games for inspiration for new schools of magic. The Elder Scrolls: Daggerfall and The Elder Scrolls: Battlespire included a School of Thaumaturgy, which would be absorbed into the School of Change in later games. Other spelling systems, such as SkyrimShouts, Racial Powers, Alchemy, Enchanting, Soul Gems, and Standing Stones all have the potential to build new systems of magic in The Elder Scrolls 6.

The existing schools of magic in Skyrim were also very limited compared to previous games i The Elder Scrolls. Instead of creating a whole new school of magic i The Elder Scrolls 6the existing schools of magic could only be expanded as in previous games in the series, with new spells and the return of old favorites.

Established schools of magic also include spells that have not necessarily always been available to player characters. The School of Conjuration, for example, embraces necromancy in terms of raising the undead. However, necromancy magic as a whole can be greatly expanded i The Elder Scrolls in general, and is a completely separate school of magic in other IPs.

Since necromancy uses soul gems, has an entire plane dedicated to souls affected by necromancy in the Soul Cairn, and has different cultural attitudes towards the practice, expanding the practice could have huge potential in The Elder Scrolls 6 in both lore and for roleplaying. This would not require creating an entirely new school of magic, and would only need a restructuring of the existing School of Conjuration.
