The month is off to a strong start with a double dose of indie games releasing on May 7th. Indie publisher Annapurna Interactive finally releases Mixtapea narrative adventure game with Life is strange vibes about three friends and their mixtape of memories that players will experience through gameplay vignettes. Fans of indie action RPGs CrossCode will also experience developer Radical Fish Games' latest title, Alabaster Dawnwhen it releases in Early Access on the same day.

Horror fans will want to make sure they have May 12th marked on their calendars, as that's the release date of Directive 8020: A Dark Pictures Game. From the creators of Until DawnSuper massive games Dark Pictures Anthology series features the developer's now-iconic choice-based narrative adventures, and Directive 8020 marking a new era in the franchise. Players will have to survive as the crew of the ship Cassiopeia after it crashes on the planet Tau Ceti f, as they encounter an alien organism that can mimic its prey, leading to a tense cinematic experience where the player's choices can affect the outcome of the story.

Just a few days later, the cozy open-world indie game Outgoing lets players explore the world using an RV as a home on May 12. It also includes crafting and co-op elements, allowing players to modify their RV to suit their, or their friends', tastes. A less cozy driving game is released the following week when Forza Horizon 6 coming to PC via Steam on May 18th. Microsoft's premier racing simulator takes players across Japan in this latest entry, in what will be Forza Horizonbiggest open world game to date.

On May 20 and 21, three exciting indie games will be released on Steam, with Deep Rock Galactic: Rogue Core up first as the third entry in Deep Rock Galactic franchise, bringing fans a new co-op FPS roguelite. The day after both Coffee Talk Tokyo and Zero Parades: For Dead Spies release, and each is a sequel to acclaimed indie games. Coffee Talk Tokyo is a visually novel game where players serve coffee to both humans and yokai in a cozy Tokyo cafe, while Zero Parades: For Dead Spies is the successor of Disco Elysium from the developer ZA/UM.

Finally, May 2026 ends with the release of 007 First lightcoming to Steam on May 27th. The latest game from Hitman developer IO Interactive follows the origin story of James Bond as a young recruit in MI6's training program on his way to serving as number 007. Between its intense espionage story and blend of action and stealth-based gameplay, 007 First light appears to be a must play for Bond and Hitman fans alike.
