In ten years ago Titan falls absence, fans have been clamoring for a new entry in the series, and it seems Splitgate the development team is here to answer those calls with a spiritual successor to the franchise. Although it is unclear if Respawn Entertainment ever intends to return to Titanfallit looks like 1047 Games will be next in line to scratch the fast-paced, parkour, mech-FPS itch.
Titanfall and Titanfall 2 was among some of the most acclaimed shooters released in the 2010s – now widely regarded as a commercially overlooked franchise that deserved more love at the time. Since the release of Titanfall 2 In 2016, Respawn Entertainment has been busy with the mega hit Apex Legends and the renowned Stakes Wars: Jedi franchise, both of which have been huge critical and financial successes. With a full live service game and a Star Wars IP to juggle, the general feeling coming from Respawn Entertainment is that a new game in the Titanfall universe is unlikely to happen, much to the chagrin of fans.

Whenever the time comes for a new Titanfall, Apex Legends should be its springboard
Titanfall 3 might not be on the cards for a while, but if it does happen, Apex Legends should be the game's most valuable stepping stone.
Leaked videos show Titanfall-inspired gameplay from Splitgate Development Studios' next game
However, it seems there is hope for something similar Titanfall franchise, and it comes from the development studio 1047 Games, best known for Splitgate series and now reportedly working on Impulsean alleged spiritual successor to Titanfall series. A series of videos have leaked to Insider Gaming, and Tom Henderson reports that 1047 Games' Impulse has all the cool features of Respawn's mech shooter, including wall running, grappling hooks and boost pads. Most importantly, Henderson says that the pre-alpha gameplay he received shows that players can use mechs scattered around the map, which apparently look quite similar to the mechs found in Titanfall, complete with a gatling gun, missile launcher and shield.

It appears that 1047 Games' Impulse certainly has all the prerequisites for one Titanfall games, and it should come as no surprise given how CEO Ian Proulx has expressed interest in Titanfall 3 one day see the light of day. Previously, Proulx has stated that the next game in development at 1047 Games would be inspired by Titanfall and Call of Duty: Black Ops 3both of whom are among the most revered shooters of the era. How Impulse will pan out, however, is another matter.
While Splitgate became a great success in 2021 thanks to that Halo and Portal-inspired mechanics, Split Gate 2 didn't have the same luck. After a weak launch, Split Gate 2 returned to beta, and the studio eventually saw several layoffs as the game continued to struggle, culminating in a rebranding to Splitgate: Arena reloads. Not to mention, Ian Proulx has been a somewhat controversial figure since his appearance at Summer Games Fest 2025, when he wore a “Make FPS Great Again” hat, causing discourse about the company and the CEO's political leanings. Proulx would later apologize for wearing the hat, but not before dampening the feelings of some fans regarding the studio.

If Splitgate: Arena reloads has struggled because of public perception of Proulx is something of a complicated issue, especially given how weary many fans are of live service games. It still seems though Impulse could potentially be what the team needs to bring the company back into the limelight. A decade is a long time without one Titanfall game, especially considering that there is nothing else like it on the market except Apex Legends, but even that game can't fill the hole that Titanfall left. If 1047 Games plays its cards right, Impulse can be Titanfall 3 as the fans have wanted.
