Every week, the Epic Games Store gives its users free games to download and keep forever. For November 2024, this list included many titles, including one Castlevania collection. While many players were happy to see Observer on the list, with some even saying they were happy to accept a second copy after previously paying for it on Steam, not everyone is having a smooth experience with the game.

Epic Games Store reveals free games for November 28
The Epic Games Store is giving away a new free game while also confirming the freebie coming on November 28th.
Shortly after Observer went free on the Epic Games Store, players began reporting that the title simply wouldn't play. The majority of players said that after launching the game, it would reach the Unity screen and then simply crash or freeze on a black window. To their credit, the Observer the devs demurred and immediately provided a response to the issue and that the team was looking into it. Shortly after, a patch was issued, but it doesn't seem to have solved all the problems for players.
What's happening with Beholder Now?
There seem to be two remaining problems with Observer at this time. A few players have reported that the Epic Games Store free game is still not working for them at all, but they seem to be in the minority. The main difficulty at the moment is that the game seems to have a bug that is not present in its other versions. According to players, in one area of the game, NPCs who are supposed to leave an apartment instead either hang at the door or continue to cycle their animation, going back in and out again. Players must be able to access this apartment (sans NPC) to progress in the game, meaning those affected are stuck at this point.
When Observer launched the patch, it noted that players with lingering issues should try restarting the game. However, there has yet to be any response to the new gameplay concerns, and it is not clear from users if players have had any success with the supposed fix. However, given the speed with which the first patch was released, hopefully these new issues will be fixed soon.
It's not clear exactly what went wrong with the game in the first place, nor if this bug already existed in this version of the game or if the fix the team implemented somehow caused it. For now, all players can do is sit tight and wait. Thankfully, since this is a free-to-play game, no one needs to feel like they've been cheated out of their money. With a bit of luck, Observer will be up and running again and a whole new bunch of players can enjoy it for the first time. In the meantime, there are other free games on Epic available throughout November, so players may want to check them out while they wait.
