Silksong Physical May Hint At Sea Of Sorrow Release Window

Hollow Knight: Silksong is finally getting its long-awaited physical release later this year, as confirmed by Fangamer earlier this week. It comes with a physical disc, a manual, and a cool fold-out map that shows you the entire world of the game. It's another nice way to support Team Cherry, but some fans think this announcement has given us some Sea of Sorrow details.

Silksong fans believe that its physicality suggests a sea of sorrow

The Hornet in battle against a Reed and Choristor in Hollow Knight: Silksong.

If you head over to the Fangamer website and the Hollow Knight: Silksong pre-order page, you'll be able to find the one sentence that's currently driving fans crazy. It reads: “Sea of Sorrow DLC is not included on game media but will be available to download for free.”

Now, if you're a glass-half-full Silksong fan, you'd probably see this as an acknowledgment that Sea of Sorrow will be out and playable when the game's physical release comes out on October 16th, but due to manufacturing and all that jazz, the DLC won't be on the disc. If you're an optimist, this is basically an announcement telling you that Sea Of Sorrow will be released within the next five months.

If you're a glass-half-empty Silksong fan, you'll read this more as a warning to potential customers that the DLC simply won't be on the disc, and that the phrase “will be available to download for free” is simply letting fans know that it's free and downloadable when it launches, whether it's before or after the physical release.

To me it's a bit strange. I'm pretty sure Sea of Sorrow will launch within the next five months, as it would be pretty weird for Team Cherry to spend a whole year on a DLC, when they usually only spend a handful of months on it. Hollow Knight's first DLC was released barely 6 months after the base game launched, and we're already over that time for Silksongs.

I think it's possible we'll hear something about Sea of Sorrow next month, maybe at Summer Game Fest, and then a release a few weeks later, like what happened with the base game. It would be weird to launch a physical and not include Sea of Sorrow if it was ready, so my money is on July or August.
