Hollow Knight: The Sanctuary, a fan-made expansion that was announced all the way back in 2021, has returned out of nowhere to confirm that it is “alive” and more news is coming soon.
Given that elephant silksong size in the room, it can often feel like all hollow knight fans have had to do in recent years is to sit and wait for something to happen. This is really the case when it comes to official editions, but this also applies to some of the ambitious fan-made projects that have emerged since Hollow Knight was first released.

I am a fool who thinks hollow knight: Silksong actually comes out in 2025
If not now, when?
Who takes us to Hollow Knight: The Sanctuary, a fan-made project that serves as a free expansion to Hollow Knight and sees players explore a new area, the titular sanctuary. The enlargement was announced almost four years ago and has mostly been missing in action since its revealing trailer – until a few days ago, that is.
Hollow Knight: The Sanctuary lives, and more news will be coming in the next few weeks
We can really get sanctuary before silky
As pointed out by GamesRadar+, the announcement will Hollow Knight: The Sanctuary is alive and comes from a tweet made by Stizzl, one of the leading members of the Sanctuary team. Outside nowhere a few days ago, Stizzl tweeted a game clip from the sanctuary and relieved everyone's concern by simply saying, “The Sanctuary is alive”.
The new pictures give us a short but new look at the sanctuary in action and again confirms that it aims to be a fairly ambitious project. Although it was not much more shared if it has not been interrupted during the almost four years since it was announced, Stizzl gave a bit of an update in the tweet's response.
Sanctuary was previously promised to contain “brand new customized assets, a soundtrack handmade by well -known hollow knights” and “much more”.
After originally asked for more players to register to try Sanctuary, Stizzl said that they hope that fans “will keep you updated to learn more about this courage in the coming weeks”. PlayTesters suggests that there is still a lot of work to be done on the sanctuary, but it looks like the years with almost silence will end very soon.
