Runescape Dragonwilds: Contact! Review

Contact! is a side quest in RuneScape: Dragonwilds where players must find three Crystal Helix Fragments for Vault Guardian Prime in the Umbral Sands region. Once completed, players will gain access to the new Masterwork Staff in the Umbral Sands region, Pharaoh's Scepter.

However, because the search area is wide and the location of the fragments is not immediately obvious, some players may get lost trying to piece the puzzle together.

To start the contact! quest, go to the northern part of the Uzzer dunesnorthwest of the Dragonkin Vault (location shown above). Talk to the red Avisk crystal near the oasis, and you'll be tasked with finding its Vault Guardians and retrieving the Crystal Helix they were carrying.

Find Vault Guardian Prime

Face north while standing next to the Avisk Crystal, and you'll see a path between some pointed sand formations. Head straight north and you'll come across one cave entrance with blue glow. Enter the cave and talk to the Vault Guardian Prime standing next to the barrier.

Vault Guardian Prime will tell you that you must find three Crystal Helix Fragments and bring them back to him before he will be able to lift the barrier and let you in.

Crystal Helix Fragment #1

Face the direction the Vault Guardian Prime is facing, and you'll see one narrow path in the cave. Follow this path and it will lead you to a large chamber filled with Kalphite Eggs.

Look to the left and you'll find one Vault Guardian embedded in the cave wallnext to the eggs with the red glow. Interact with the Vault Guardian to get the first Crystal Helix Fragment.

Crystal Helix Fragment #2

Exit the cave and turn north. Look for a large sand formation curving inwards, which contains a large number of Kalphite eggs (shown in the screenshot above). Approach the cluster of eggs under the arch, and you'll find another one Vault Guardian half buried between the eggs.

Interact with it and you'll learn that someone took the other fragment. The quest will be updated to say that you must follow the footprints in the sand to find out who took the Crystal Helix.

The steps are just east of where you find the Vault Guardianbehind the buildings, between the dunes. They lead you towards oasis in the eastwhich is only a few meters away. Look for a tent in the oasis. Here you will find Zanik standing next to the campfire.

Talk to her and she will tell you that the Avis crystal is trying to trick you and that you should side with her and destroy the Avis fragments that are behind the barrier. Agree to her request and she will give you the second Crystal Shard.

Crystal Helix Fragment #3

Go to the location shown in the screenshot above and you will find a small dilapidated building. Look inside and you'll find the third Vault Guardian buried under the sand. Dig up the Vault Guardian and interact with it.

The prompt will say that to get the fragment you must activate Vault Guardian with 4 Vault Shards. Choose to give the Vault Shards to the guardian, and you will receive the third and final Crystal Helix Fragment.

Should you bid on Avisk Crystal or Zanik?

Go back to Vault Guardian Prime and give it the three Crystal Helix Fragments. It will combine the fragments and use them to dispel the barrier behind it. Go through the barrierand you'll find a chamber with four small Avis Crystals and Zanik.

Talk to Zanik, and you will hear the voice of the Azisk Crystal telling you to jump into the hole inside the chamber. Zanik disagrees and tells you to mine the crystals instead. The correct (and only) choice here is to side with Zanik and break the crystals with your pickaxe.

Once you've broken all four crystals in the room, talk to Zanik again to complete the quest. As a reward, you get a remnant called Icthlarian fetish.
