As you move on through the relationship levels for the party you will eventually Unlock ten gradients (There are three for each character). You will not be able to start using gradient attacks and gradient count until the game learns after the first act, but using these will prove to be super useful for the middle, end and after the game Clair Obscur: Expedition 33.
