How to get into the monastery ruins in Gothic 1 Remake
You can start by meeting the Gorn in the upper right corner of the star icon on the map. It is marked with a red circle on the map above. He stands on the edge of a stone bridge. Talk to him and he will guide you to a cave.
Enter a room in the cave and loot everything you can, but more importantly, open the chest in the corner of the room and loot the scroll that says “Transform into Meatbug”. This is your entrance ticket to the monastery.
Since Gorn will follow you, it's best to let him do the fighting. When the enemies see you, just run behind Gorn, and he is strong enough to take care of the enemy creatures for you.
Now leave the cave and take the path to the right to the top of the mountain. You need to move back to where you met the Gorn and cross the bridge towards the monastery, just be careful of the snappers on the other side!
Instead of trying to open the locked iron gate, look to the left, where there is a bunch of pink flowers on the wall. Go there, and then you'll see a lot of Meatbugs lurking on the ground. It's time to use the “Transform into Meatbug” scroll.
Move straight towards the wall, and you'll find a crack to go through. Continue the path and get past the Snapper and stand in the middle of the yard, where you can then open the iron gate with the lever.
You must then move into the corridor on the far right of the monastery, as shown in the image above. Follow the path and use the ledges to climb up.
When you reach the upper level of the walls, turn right and go straight ahead until you find a cave entrance. Enter the cave and take the path to the left. You will fight several Snappers before facing the boss, the Shadow Beast.
How to defeat Shadow Beast in Gothic 1 Remake
The first thing that will get your attention about Shadow Feast is that it can follow you around quite quickly. So running around is not an option here. That said, the Shadow Beast's attacking moves are slow. It has little cooldown between its attack chains, creating a perfect window to strike and retreat.
One-handed weapons deal significantly less damage, but you can manage to get two hits instead of one. Ranged weapons are not recommended at allas the Shadow Beast is too nimble to let you aim and prepare your bow or crossbow.
There is a good one-handed sword in the battle arena, the Sword of Death. If you're quick enough, you can pick it up while the Shadow Beast is chasing you, but it's risky, since the sword is at a dead end, and equipping it during the fight is almost impossible.
Even if you don't manage to get the Sword of Death early on, be sure to pick up the weapon after the Shadow Beast is dead.
How to get the Focus Stone in the Abbey Ruins in Gothic 1 Remake
As soon as you defeat the Shadow Beast, walk towards the path behind the one leading outside. You will find the Focus Stone covered in magic. Interact with it to grab the stone.
Do not return to the exit gate from the same way you reached the Focus Stone. Use the small passage in the yard instead. It will lead to an iron gate that you can open with the handle next to it.
At the end of this path you will reach the courtyard, but be sure to loot the rooms along the path. As soon as you are in the main courtyard, just run towards the exit gate to escape the monastery. You will hear sounds, but just run and don't look back, because a giant troll is chasing you!
When you exit the gate, Gorn will start a conversation with you, and you can tell him about the Focus Stone. When the conversation ends, run behind him and let Gorn deal with the troll. When the youth troll has low health, it will run away. This is when you can chase it or land a ranged shot to kill the monster and loot what it has to offer.
