Pokemon's Gen 10 plans are missing a very important part of the franchise formula

Despite the lack of official information regarding Pokemon winds and waves and Gen 10 as a whole after the first reveal trailer on Pokemon Day, several alleged leaks surfaced online about what will happen to these games and even afterwards. For example, Pokemon winds and wavesThe leaked map has been online for several days now and shows the entire archipelago for the Gen 10 games, including various locations, biomes and gyms. Not only that, but there were also leaks detailing what kind of games are currently in full production or pre-production for the series beyond just Pokemon winds and waves.

This alleged leak is anything but surprising, as well Pokemon winds and waves has been in the works for years now, and last year's TeraLeak even featured early concept images of a Pokemon Legends games for the Galar region. Gen 11 is also in pre-production, according to this leak, which shows how deep these long-term plans are meant to go. One important detail that emerges from the current plans for Gen 10 is the fact that no remakes appear to be in the works. This might seem like a logical next step for the series after BDSP was laid out at ILCA, but it's further confirmation that the Gen 5 is getting the short end of the stick.

Everything in Pokemon Gen 10 Teraleak Explained

Images and documents related to Pokemon Gen 10 games, allegedly called Pokemon Wind and Wave, have surfaced online detailing their new content.

It's the end of an era for Pokemon games

Pokémon remakes have long been a tradition for the series, to the point that Gen 5 remakes were a major talking point throughout Gen 9's lifespan. Fans expected them to be next in line after Gen 4 got remakes before Gen 9 even came out, but they never came. One could argue that The Indigo Disk DLC was a tribute to Unova and Gen 5 games as a whole, but it's far from a remake.

Based on a leak from Centro Leaks, there are four releases in full production at Game Freak and two games in pre-production. These are:

  • Pokemon winds and waves (full production, rumored to be ready)
  • Pokemon Pokopia DLC, with Omega Force developing it (full production, rumored to launch between late 2026 and early 2027)
  • Pokemon winds and waves DLC (full production, likely a 2028 release)
  • Pokemon Legends Galar game, if TeraLeak documents are true (full production could be a 2028 or 2029 release)
  • Pokemon Project Seedan MMO game featuring the four Japanese regions so far (pre-production, described in TeraLeak)
  • Pokémon Gen 11 (pre-production)

If this leak is true, then there are a few things to consider. Pokemon winds and waves will be launched at the end of 2027, based on the latest leaks, that there will be no news this year. Assuming this is also true, it means that the games in production are planned for at least a few years ahead, possibly until 2031 or later. The fact that no remakes are on the list doesn't automatically mean this trend is over for good, but it does make its resurgence highly unlikely.

Say goodbye to Pokemon Gen 5 remakes

There are a few reasons why it is now very unlikely to ever be seen Pokémon Gen 5 is being remade after this leak, assuming it's legit. These are:

  • With that in mind Pokemon BDSPThe reception was very poor, it is unlikely that future remakes will be outsourced again, risking the same fate.

  • Pokémon Gen 5 remakes were not part of TeraLeak, nor were they part of any new leak from proven sources.
  • Pokémon remakes are usually released between major games to ease the wait for them while reviving older regions. The fact that no remakes are currently in the works or have been announced lends more credence to them being scrapped.
  • Pokemon Legends: ZAs Mega Evolutions allowed Game Freak to explore an older region and battle gimmick without relying on remakes, so the future Legends games can stop covering Gen 5 and do away with remakes.

The only saving grace for Pokémon remakes is that they will be outsourced again, despite BDSP's performance, which is why they are not on the list of games currently in production. This isn't impossible, but even if it is, it would mean that Game Freak-made remakes are almost guaranteed to never come back, which is sad in and of itself. As such, if you hope for Pokemon black and white remakes or sequels, you should temper your expectations.
