Pokemon Winds And Waves 300 New Pokemon Rumors Are 'Very Likely Real'

Yesterday, infamous Pokemon leaker Centro Leaks shared a huge revelation about Pokemon Winds and Waves. It claimed that over 300 new Pokémon and new forms of existing Pokémon would be coming to the game. At TheGamer, we decided not to cover this because Centro's sources were a little light, and 300 new Pokemon seemed frankly outlandish.

Earlier today, however, the leaker tweeted that it “upgrades the credibility of this rumor” and that it was “highly likely to be real,” so we decided to dive in.

Wind and Waves are “highly likely” to get 300 new Pokémon or forms

Centro Leak's tweet yesterday claimed that Wind and Waves would have “the highest amount of new Pokemon ever in a Pokemon game.” A perfectly reasonable proposition, given that it's the tenth generation and it's launching just after the series' 30th anniversary. But they then went on to claim that they were told the number was “about 300 new Pokémon/Forms,” including those added for the new, unannounced weather-based battle mechanic.

They claimed to have independently verified it with multiple sources, but stressed that it should be treated as a rumor while they sought further verification. So we did, and we didn't cover it.

Starting with Scarlet and Violet, there are 1,025 unique Pokémon, rising to between 1,247 and 1,464 in terms of unique forms, including Mega Evolutions, Gigantimax forms, and regional forms. Adding 300 new Pokémon or forms increases the total by over 20 percent, which is an obscene amount for a new game. The series had averaged around 162 additions per generation up to this point, with the highest being 182 added in Gen 8's Sword and Shield, with new Gigantimax Pokémon added, along with Galarian and Hisuian regional forms. You will understand our skepticism at the number 300 quoted.

But today, instead of confirming the leak was false, Centro doubled down, saying it was “highly likely to be real”.

In a recent tweet, they said, “We're upgrading the credibility of this rumor. After multiple sources have now come forward and support the claim, we believe the Pokemon number leak is VERY LIKELY TRUE,” adding, “It's happening. Around 300 new Pokemon are planned.”

Of course, it should still be treated as a rumor, and right now we've only seen three of the 300. But if this is true, with the graphical overhaul we've seen, Winds and Waves is shaping up to be one of the most exciting Pokemon games of all time.
