Pokemon TCG -boom continues when more random cards increase by up to 600 percent

Summary

  • The prices of Pokemon TCG cards have increased significantly, such as iron template by 640%, in the midst of peeling and hype.

  • Random cards, such as Cinccino and Loudred, have risen in price by an average of 138%, which raises concerns about the TCG market.

  • Despite current availability, cards from sets such as temporary forces and paradox rift have seen unexpected price spikes, which suggests a broader TCG trend.

Earlier this year, I published a report that examines Pokemon TCG's current condition. It found that between October and January, the price of swords and Shield's most expensive cards had increased by an average of 42 percent, sealed products by an average of 27 percent and a selection of Skarlakansröda and violet cards with an average of 84 percent. It is a weak condition.

The report found various causes of these increases, including Scalpers, investors and flippers, the onset of 'poke tubs', hype around the new sets and the effect of Pokemon Trading Card Game Pocket.

Pokemon TCG: The best full art cards, ranked by artwork

With full art Pokemon cards, you just have to stop and admire the work – and these are the best.

It's been a couple of months since that report, and I'm sorry to share that things haven't settled. Many of the cards I originally looked at have had their higher value, and a bunch of new, seemingly random cards have the skyrocket in price during the past month or two.

Mantyke, Morpeko and Magby are just some of the Pokemon cards to see huge price nails

This time I decided to focus on just three expansions: Twilight Masquerade, Temporal Forces and Paradox Rift, and their prices between December and March 2025. While most major cards from these sets have seen a certain level of price increase during that period, I found that at least 25 of them had seen significant price increases, as seen below.

With the help of data from Collecttr, a short tracking app, I found that these 25 cards had risen by an average of 138 percent, or 114 percent, without Iron Moth -outlier.

It is seemingly a random selection of cards, with Pokémon, which is usually unpopular, such as Loudred, Cinccino and Vanillish, all see significant price increases. Although there is an argument that many of these cards were undervalued, it is difficult not to expect anything more suspected, given the sharp and sudden climbs. That's it, or collectors suffer from serious fomo.

What is stranger is that all these three sets are fairly easily accessible. On the Pokemon Center UK website, both Paradox Rift and Temporal Forces Booster Boxes are available to buy, and many LGs have layers of all three sets in some capacity. I could personally pick up some Twilight Masquerade packages during the weekend from a corner shop and my local Tesco storm market.

With Journey together on the horizon, intended rivals that would soon be released, Mega Evolution confirmed to return, and the Franchis's 30th anniversary imminent, I am concerned about Pokemon TCG's short-term future.
