Pokemon GO May event adds new Mega Evolution

A new one Pokémon GO Super Mega Raid Day will take place in May, where Mega Falinks will debut in the game. The Mega Evolution mechanic was introduced to the mainline video games in 2013 and added Pokémon GO in 2020. Over the past six years, developer Niantic has added several Mega Evolutions to the game, including the vast majority from Pokemon X and Y as well as Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire.

Pokemon Legends: ZA introduced a brand new series of Mega Evolutions to the franchise last year. Pokémon GO has slowly started adding these newcomers to the game, bringing in new favorites like Mega Dragonite, Mega Victreebel, and Mega Malamar. Between Pokemon Legends: ZA and its DLC, more than 40 new Mega Evolutions debuted, and Pokémon GO players can expect to see them added to the game over time.

Pokemon GO Falink's Super Mega Raid Day Revealed

Pokémon GO teased a Mega Raid Day on its May Raid schedule, and now full details have been confirmed. A Super Mega Raid Day focused on Mega Falinks will take place in Pokémon GO Saturday 23 May at 14.00-17.00 local time. Niantic will temporarily increase the Remote Raids limit to 20 between Friday, May 22 at 17.00 until Saturday 23 May at 8 p.m. PT. Players participating in Super Mega Raids will have an increased chance of encountering Shiny Falinks, and up to six additional Raid Passes can be obtained by spinning photo discs in gyms.

Players can get even more Raid Passes through an optional event ticket that will cost $4.99, and Pokémon GO players who make the purchase can get up to 14 Raid Passes by spinning Gym Photo Discs. Other event ticket bonuses include an increased chance to get Rare Candy XL after Raid Battles, as well as an additional 5,000 XP and 5,000 Stardust from Super Mega Raids. Players should remember that these bonuses are only active during event hours.

Pokémon GO made changes to Mega Evolution earlier this year, and even more changes are coming next month. Specifically, players can expect an update to how Mega Energy works. Starting with Falink's Super Mega Raid Day, players will be able to use Mega Energy to quickly increase a Pokemon's Mega Level. The amount of Mega Energy needed to increase the Mega Level will be lower if a player has already Mega Evolved that Pokemon multiple times.

Shortly after Falink's Super Mega Raid Day, the Pokemon GO Fest 2026 in-person event will begin rolling out. Niantic hasn't offered much detail about the event yet, though Pokémon GO is rumored to finally add Mega Mewtwo X and Y. Mega Mewtwo X and Y were some of the first Mega Evolutions introduced in the franchise, but have yet to make their debut in Pokémon GO. It may finally be coming to an end, but it remains to be seen if those rumors will turn out to be true.
