Cyberpunk 2077 is easily among the most notable open world games of recent years, often recommended for its unique and detailed world of futuristic megapolis Night City. The game's map includes not only the city – huge, vertical and layered – but also the surrounding Badlands. Overall, Night City takes up about 50 percent of the explorable map, and as a whole, Cyberpunk 2077 the map is quite large. But how big is it really, and how does the game compare to other open world games in pure map size?
Given how difficult it is to provide a legitimate comparison for map sizes between different open world titles, this list will compare games with Cyberpunk 2077 based on the time needed to walk across the entire map. Fortunately, there are many YouTube channels dedicated to just that (thanks to How Big is the Map? and Sonny Evans). For Night City and its surroundings, this figure is fair during the three-hour markwhich for example is more than The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt's Velen and Novigrad (about one hour). Of course, this method isn't perfect either, given how variable walking speed can be from game to game, vertical drops on the maps, constant obstacles to avoid when trying to move in a straight line, etc. With that in mind, here are open world games officially bigger than Cyberpunk 2077takes even more time to traverse the map on foot without loading screens.
Fire Ring
A truly epic journey through a gigantic world
Fire Ring is a really massive game that takes significantly more time to complete than Cyberpunk 2077and also boast a larger, more varied game world. With several vast ancient dungeons (including entire cities such as Leyndell, the royal capital) and vast underground regions, the Lands Between is a place of grand beauty and constant discovery.
To traverse the Lands Between on foot (without going below the surface and even avoiding some surface areas entirely), players will need about three and a half hours on average. The exact map size is even bigger than that, if you consider Fire Rings many large dungeons and separate areas inaccessible from the main landmass without teleportation. Fortunately, players can use their mount, Torrent, to especially speed up the exploration of this gigantic world.
Assassin's Creed Valhalla
Among the largest in the series, known for its huge maps
As a whole, Assassin's Creed Valhalla should probably rank even higher, given that this colossal game has multiple separate explorable maps and worlds available (even without DLC), making it the longest in the series. The base game offers large maps of Great Britain, Norway and Vinland (America), as well as the mythical realms of Asgard and Jotunheim – all presented as fairly large explorable maps. To speed up exploration, players can also use various mounts, such as i Fire Ring.
Also to take Valhalla single main map of Great Britain, it is already larger than the whole Cyberpunk 2077takes over three hours to cross on foot. Of course, such a gigantic scale is understandable given that Valhalla essentially contains an entire country with several explorable cities rather than a single city and its surroundings. None of Valhalla cities, however, can hold a candle to Night City's size.
Ghost Recon Wildlands
A fully explorable country is no joke
As Assassin's Creed Valhalla, Ghost Recon Wildlands takes place across an entire country – fictional modern day Bolivia, with different biomes, cities and settlements, mountains, deserts, forests, valleys and everything in between. The extent of Wildlands' the map is truly colossal, among the largest Ubisoft has ever made. Crossing Bolivia on foot would take players about four and a half hours on average. Very few traditional open world titles could match this incredible figure.
Again, it's easy to see why Ubisoft required the map to be so large too Ghost Recon Wildlands. Created as a cooperative large-scale adventure, players are free to use different vehicles – not just cars or bikes, but also helicopters and airplanes – to then perform a parachute jump anywhere on the map. Making Bolivia smaller would probably make the map feel too small and artificial, negatively impacting the sense of adventure and discovery in such a large playground.
Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora
A Chunk of Pandora About twice the size of Cyberpunk 2077
It may be hard to believe, but recently Ubisoft managed to surpass the scale of Wildlands map with Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora. Massive Entertainment has delivered a large portion of Pandora's surface, standing as one of the largest virtual worlds to explore without any loading screens to date. Crossing the map on foot Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora would at five o'clock on average — almost twice as long as going through Cyberpunk 2077 map — and every step of the way players are greeted by impeccably detailed landscapes, distinct biomes, vegetation and wildlife that James Cameron's universe is known for.
The aim is to match the grand scope of the films, as well as capture the spirit of freedom, Pandora's Limits offers mounts, including flying Ikrans or Banshees, for players to attach to and actively use to reach their destinations much faster. Fans of Avatar universes can literally lose themselves in this expansive rendering of Pandora, which is much larger than the open world of Cyberpunk 2077 without compromising on the details.
Just Cause 3
Unrivaled for its scope among traditional Open-World games
No matter how big the open world maps Assassin's Creed, Far Cryor Ghost Recon games are, they can't compete with Just cause. Known for its expansive tropical worlds that act as dynamic and explosive playgrounds for players, Just cause game has some of the largest explorable maps ever, with Just Cause 3 be among the largest to date.
Set on the fictional Mediterranean island of Medici, the large map crosses over Just Cause 3 on foot would take one an astonishing eight hours — quite a long walk. During this time the players could leave Cyberpunk 2077 map back and forth almost three times. Of course, Just Cause 3 is not meant to be played like this, as players can use cars, bikes, helicopters, planes, and a grappling hook with a wingsuit to traverse large parts of the map in an instant if necessary, something that cannot be achieved in Cyberpunk 2077.
