Official Pokémon Monks revealed, but there's a catch

Important takeaways

  • Pokemon and Mister Donut in Japan offer themed Pikachu, Diglett and Pokeball donuts starting at $1.44.
  • Collaborations between Pokémon and donut chains happen annually, but official donuts are not available in the US.
  • Fans have created Pokemon-themed donuts. While American fans remain hopeful, the latest collaboration in Japan is underway.

Pokémon is partnering with a donut shop to create new donuts, but they're only available in Japan. It is the latest collaboration between Pokémon and Mister Donut, a popular Japanese donut chain.

Official Pokémon donuts have been introduced as limited collaborations almost every year, with series favorites like Pikachu, Psyduck, and Jigglypuff getting the donut treatment over the years. Contributions tend to vary, but as the series mascot, Pikachu is almost always available when these collaborations are going on.

Pokemon's leaked series timeline explained

Recently leaked information gives Pokemon fans a better understanding of the series' complex timeline, and there's a lot to talk about.

This year, Mister Donut and Pokémon has revealed the latest collaboration, introducing a pair of Pikachu-themed donuts, Diglett-themed donuts, and a Pokeball-themed donut. Per Siliconera, the varieties range in price from about $1.44 to $2.12 USD. Shaped like PIkachu's head, including the ears, the Pikachu donut is filled with whipped cream and covered in chocolate with caramel custard. The Diglett donut resembles a round mochi donut, is covered in chocolate crunch and custard cream and has a sweet Diglett popping out of the center which is a caramel cream puff.

On the simpler side, there's a Poke Ball donut, which looks like a regular round donut with a hole in the middle. It's coated in white chocolate and strawberry sugar to recreate the look of the iconic red and white Poke Ball. Finally, there are a couple of donuts more loosely based on Pikachu and Diglett, which are essentially yellow and brown donuts filled with custard and whipped cream. Pikachu's is custard flavored, while Diglett's is caramel flavored. The event with these monks will start on November 6th. The event doesn't specify when it ends, but based on the Christmas-themed ads, they'll likely be available at least until December.

Pokemon Donut collaborations are common, but not in the West

Mister Donut is not the only donut chain to offer Pokémon monks in the past. Krispy Kreme has also had collaborations with Pokémon before, but strangely, despite being an American company, they haven't been available in the US. This is likely disappointing for fans of the series, but as the years have gone by, nothing has been done to bring them stateside.

While Pokémon fans are out of luck in the US for official ones, fans have created Pokémon donuts in the past to celebrate the iconic game series and its pocket monsters. While some are hoping for a collaboration like this to come west, making your own might be the best option for now.
