I didn't know what to expect from the Nintendo Switch 2 Welcome Tour. First, it is not free with the console, even though it is marketed as an introduction to everything it gives to the table. At $ 9.99 it is hardly a premium product, but selling for everything at all means that we have to see it with the same critical eye as we would do everything else.
From what I experienced at an extensive practical event last month, it is formed to be a charming, stylish and surprisingly extensive insight into the Switch 2 hardware, along with detailed explanations of modern game terminology and technology that the audience for a game that may not know. Its goal is to inform and entertain, and through that metric it succeeds.
You are probably not the target group for Nintendo Switch 2 Welcome Tour
I did not get the chance to start the Welcome Tour from the beginning and was instead thrown into a save file where large parts of the console had already been discovered. You are a small pixel water that can be adapted to your taste before you are commissioned to explore a large model of Nintendo Switch 2 that hundreds of other people grind on as if it is a theme park.
They participate in mini -game attractions, read detailed boards that are placed near important parts of the console such as museum exhibitions or are looking for lost objects that they are misplaced when they are out. It is a sweet concept and immediately reminded me of how Nintendo Land tried to transform the act of learning to use Wii U into theme entertainment, except this time, with its vague corporate art style and lack of komos from other Nintendo properties, it is more sanitized and to the point. Everything is clean, properly and wonderfully detailed, which the console itself was scanned and refined in a virtual space to get all parts of it to pop. Once you have taken in the scope of everything, you can start exploring.
After a certain point, you will go down into the courtyards, knit on microchips and other parts of the internal design, all of which are extremely detailed and accurate.
Your goals can vary from discovering every point of interest in a particular section so you can discover the next area or participate in mini games to reach high points and earn gold medals. It is simple, although I had some problems with finding every board and quiz in some areas, because I was often obliged to shoot myself up to walls or scrub every single land to make sure I did not miss anything obvious. But it is this feeling of exploration and discovery that the Welcome Tour expects from its audience, and I was happy to meet it where it is.
One thing that I realized very quickly, however, was that most of the technical terms and jargon as welcome tour were anxious to rectify as I already knew through and through. Things like HDR, Framerate, Resolution, HD Rumble, Ir Sensor's and Myriad others have switch 2 boasts that have been part of other, more powerful consoles for several years now.
But Nintendo is aware that many millions of people who picked up an original change are not knowledgeable about the complications in the latest and best technology. This game not only describes these features in an easy -to -understand way, but provides practical examples for players to interact with.
But it's still a fun time for newcomers and veterans
These mini games are simple, but hide a surprising amount of depth, both in terms of how many different versions of those you can unlock and extra challenges to complete it rewarded you with medals to spend on the large console.
One has to use Joy Con as two individual mice when trying to navigate a golf ball over a course in seconds, while another has the console and moves it around to use the haptics. One of my personal favorites made me use all ten of my fingers to touch individual colored buttons on the screen as a virtual game with Twister. Everyone is fun isolated and also serves to learn something about how to use the hardware.
Most mini games do not take longer than a few minutes, and when you have made all the extra goals the game actively encourages you to move on.
Another prominent was designed to showcase the 4K resolution of the console when you are asked to play through the very first level in Super Mario Bros that starts with its original NES image resolution. The more of the level you navigate, the greater the resolution will be until it finally reaches its full potential.
Some of me wish there was more Nintendo IP that was woven into the experience, but given that I could not explore all areas during my preview, there is still a possibility that this will happen. It is exciting to know that you can know a welcome tour for your older or younger relatives and know that it will be perceived as not just a training tool, but a fun game in itself that does not exceed its welcome.
It is the video game equivalent to walk around your parent's house to turn off movement on his new TV, except Mario is there. If it's not a winner, I don't know what is.
