The Monster Hunter series is becoming a giant. While the game had its fan base, Monster Hunter: World pushed the series into the mainstream, becoming Capcom's best-selling game of all time, ahead of the Resident Evil series. Incidentally, 2021's Monster Hunter Rise is Capcom's second bestseller. So, naturally, anticipation was high for Monster Hunter Wild's open beta.

Monster Hunter Wild's Datamine potentially leaks several returning monsters
A data mine from Monster Hunter Wild's Open Beta has potentially leaked several unannounced recurring monsters.
The beta went live yesterday, and while a high number of players was expected, no one expected it to be as… wild as it has been.
Monster Hunter Wilds is Steam's third most played new game of 2024
According to SteamDB, Monster Hunter Wild's Beta test reached a staggering peak of 463,798 on the Valve-owned platform, making it the third highest number of concurrent players for a new title this year, behind Black Myth: Wukong and Palworld.
This means the Wilds Beta, which launched three days early on PS Plus, has beaten Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, which Microsoft said was the series' biggest release ever, Helldivers 2, and Amazon's wildly popular new MMO, Throne and Liberty—no small feat feat for a beta.
Monster Hunter Wild's beta is actually one of the most played games of all time, coming in at 22nd overall.
However, the Wilds beta hasn't just overshadowed almost everything else that's come out this year, as it's also now the most played Monster Hunter game ever on Steam, breaking the world record with 334,684 players.
This number of concurrent players doesn't just mean the beta is one of the most played games of 2024 either. It's actually one of the highest of all time, coming in at 22nd, ahead of Starfield, Destiny 2 and The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.
Of course, numbers like that mean Monster Hunter Wilds sits comfortably atop Steam's top wish list, with Deadlock, Hollow Knight: Silksong, and Delta Force in second, third, and fourth place, respectively.
I'm sure Capcom expected a good response to this beta, but you have to imagine it has blown the company's wildest estimates out of the water.
Monster Hunter Wilds introduces a dynamic, living world with changing climates, along with the usual variety of gigantic monsters, weapons and characters. A new mount, Seikret, helps you get there faster and easier.
