Summary
-
Despite having Iron Man, Spider-Man and Wolverine on their roster, Marvel Rivals has a surprise star of the show.
-
That star is Jeff the Land Shark, who has become a figurehead for the game in recent months.
-
Rivals may have even launched Jeff's film career, as Brad Winderbaum basically confirmed that it happens eventually.
In news that will shock literally no one, Marvel's head of TV, streaming and animation has confirmed that Marvel Rivals' pariah, Jeff the Land Shark, will eventually join the MCU.
While it's certainly not that surprising that a free-to-play hero shooter starring a large cast of famous Marvel heroes and villains is doing well, Marvel Rivals is a much bigger hit than its Overwatch clone origins may have hinted. It seems that almost everyone has tried the NetEase Games mega hit, something that is reinforced by its huge number of players.

Marvel Rival's success will be down to more than just its IP
Getting people to play a live service game requires more than well-known heroes, and Rivals already shows that they are well aware of that.
In fact, Marvel Rivals has been such a huge success that it's even reached a part of Marvel itself, something that was recently confirmed by Brad Winderbaum, Marvel's head of TV, streaming and animation. While speaking with the Phase Hero podcast, Winderbaum revealed how far the hero shooter has come and the impact a certain room-splitting and character-spouting hero has made.
Jeff The Land Shark will (eventually) become a movie star
That hero is none other than Jeff the Land Shark, a previously obscure Marvel character who has quickly risen to stardom thanks to his inclusion in Marvel Rivals. Jeff has become quite the hot topic in recent months, mainly because of how powerful and cute he is at the same time. Jeff is a real game breaker, and we love to hate him for it.
It seems that several higher ups at Marvel have seen the Undershark's great potential, as Winderbaum specifically called out his appearance in Marvel Rivals (thanks GamesRadar+) and even suggested that the hero could be coming to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Considering how much Marvel loves a cute sidekick, we're not surprised.
Winderbaum said everyone knows Jeff the Land Shark has to happen eventually and that while he can't say when or where, it's definitely under consideration. The head of TV, streaming and animation even takes Marvel's side in the Jeff debate during the interview, saying “We're all Jeff fans here”.
You know it's coming! You know it's coming. I can't say when, I can't say where. But we're all Jeff fans here. Man is he fun to play! – Jeff Winderbaum
While Jeff the Land Shark didn't make his debut in Marvel Rivals and has been around for a while now, it's nice to see such an obscure character get the spotlight among veterans like Spider-Man, Wolverine, and Iron Man. It looks like it's Jeff the Land Shark's world and we're all just living in it.
