Santa Monica Studios creative director Cory Barlog announced at San Diego Comic-Con 2026 that God of War Laufey will launch on February 16, 2027, with a new Kratos-led God of War game in the works.
“Faye is, even though it's a different thing, it's still part of the larger tapestry of what we really, really want to explore, all these different characters in there,” Barlog said (via IGN ). “But there will always be Kratos games, like throughout history. We're super excited about that.”
With that, there are now four major God of War projects in development:

God of War Trilogy Remake — early development.

God of War Prime Video series — production paused due to Kratos actor Ryan Hurst suffering an injury and being recast.

What to expect from the new Kratos-led God of War
With all eyes on Laufey, Barlog and the rest of the God of War panel understandably didn't pay too much attention to the new Kratos-led game. But in the past, Barlog has openly toyed with the idea of exploring the pantheons of Egypt or the Maya. Christopher Judge has also expressed his interest in taking Kratos to Egypt, saying it “would be a full circle for me” after playing Teal'c in Stargate.
The Egyptian goddess of war finally makes her debut in Laufey, with Sekhmet featured in the debut trailer as a major antagonist.
Wherever the God of War is, Barlog revealed that Laufey will set the stage for the Kratos-led game. “Everything we do in the Faye game is a continuation of what came before and to set up and expand on what comes next,” he explained. “Phranque has been around since the beginning. It's interesting to see how you build this world. Everything in the game is building up to something so amazing.”
It's hard to tell what the Kratos-led game might mean from what little we've seen of Laufey so far, but he did make a brief appearance in the uninterrupted reveal footage, giving Laufey his hand. It's likely we'll see more visions of the God of War peppered throughout Faye's journey through Everywhen, potentially planting seeds for his next game.
