Final Fantasy 16's Clive will officially return on October 22nd

The coming one Final Fantasy Resonance is set to see the return of Final Fantasy 16s protagonist Clive Rosfield as part of the game's list of classics Final Fantasy sign. Despite debuting more recently than some of Final Fantasy ResonanceClive, as a guest character, has become one of the most popular main characters in the series thanks to his tragic story and phenomenal performance by voice actor Ben Starr. Now Ifrit's Dominant returns in a new Final Fantasy the game will be released on October 22nd.

While Final Fantasy 16 is one of the more controversial entries in the series, largely due to its shift towards full action RPG combat instead of the turn-based and Active Time Battle systems the series is known for, characters like Clive were a standout in the game. Seeing Clive build relationships with characters like his brother Joshua and childhood friend Jill endeared him to many Final Fantasy 16 player. Clive will soon appear in a completely new context via his Vision in Final Fantasy Resonance.

Clive will represent Final Fantasy 16 in FF Resonance

Final Fantasy Resonance is a new entry in the franchise that adopts the popular HD-2D JRPG art style that Square Enix games have pioneered recently. Unlike Final Fantasy 16, Resonance returns to the franchise's roots with a traditional turn-based battle system complete with a twist on the classic Summons mechanic that has appeared throughout the series. This mechanic is called Visions and allows players to summon echoes of loved ones Final Fantasy characters from throughout the series' past to fight alongside players and offer them unique skills. Confirmed visions for Resonance include:

In his Vision form, Clive transforms into Eikon Ifrit and attacks enemies with a powerful Meteor Strike skill, crashing a fiery meteor into them. As a single player offline game based on the mobile title Final Fantasy Brave Exvius, Final Fantasy Resonance has a lot of overlap with the mobile game mechanics. Since Ifrit is a summonable Esper in Brave Exviusit's unclear how Clive's Vision will differ from this summon version of Ifrit.

Final Fantasy Brave Exvius officially ended service on October 30, 2024, but its legacy will live on Final Fantasy Resonance.

Final Fantasy Resonance launches on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and Nintendo Switch 1/2 on October 22. Then Final Fantasy 16 is not yet available on either Switch 1 or Switch 2, despite being heavily rumored to get a Switch 2 port, Final Fantasy Resonance will be Clive's first appearance on a Nintendo console. There is still hope for one Final Fantasy 16 Switch 2 port, as director Naoki Yoshida has teased a Switch 2 release before, though nothing has been revealed so far.

Clive has been quite busy Final Fantasy main character despite being the latest star in a main entry. Before he appeared in Final Fantasy Resonancehe had appeared in one Final Fantasy 14 collab event, as a playable character in Dissidia Duellum Final Fantasyand also as a guest fighter in Tekken 8. If Final Fantasy fans still can't get enough of Clive, then Resonance has them covered when it launches this fall.
