Kirby Air Riders get three more expensive Amiibo

By now, it's pretty clear that Amiibo have become quite expensive over the years. Between general price increases from Nintendo, along with bigger, better, and more detailed figures joining the line, the once cost-effective figures that Super Smash Bros. fans collected in droves during the Wii U and Nintendo 3DS era no longer exist.

Perhaps the biggest example of this change in strategy is with the Amiibo line dedicated to next month's release of Kirby Air Riders. Previously, during a Nintendo Direct dedicated to the GameCube sequel, it was revealed that Kirby and Waddle-Dee would be getting Amiibo, which were later revealed to cost $49.99 each, making them the most expensive Amiibo ever.

Flash forward to today, and there's been another Nintendo Direct dedicated to Air Riders, and three more Amiibo announced – Meta Knight, King Dedede and Chef Kawaski, bringing the total number of Amiibo up to five.

Right now, only Meta Knight is available for pre-order, and like the other two Amiibo, it costs $49.99. It's doubtful that King Dedede or Chew Kawaski will be cheaper, meaning if you want all five Air Riders Amiibo, you'll have to cough up $250 ($49.99 x 5).

For reference, you can get a Switch Lite for $199.99 and use the extra $50 on a brand new game, or you can put that $250 on a Switch 2 and only have to come up with the other $200, give or take. Either way, it's a pretty radical price step.

Considering how expensive Amiibo have gotten in the past, you might be better off waiting

Now, we won't be the ones to tell you what to do with your money, but if these Amiibo are on your wish list, patience might actually be the best thing for your wallet.

That's because the last “most expensive” Amiibo, AKA the ones dedicated to Street Fighter, eventually found themselves in clearance bins, bringing the prices to a much more palatable state. Other Amiibo dedicated to Metroid Dread or even Zelda titles have also been heavily discounted after there were none taken.

In other words, it's very likely that Meta Knight will be cheaper within a few months. At least that's what I tell myself so I don't smash that pre-order button.
