Jujutsu Kaisen finally reveals the official end of its main trio

Gege Akutamis Jujutsu Kaisen is one of the most iconic parts of modern shonen. Beginning its serialization in Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump Issue #14 on March 5, 2018, Jujutsu Kaisen went on to establish a great legacy for itself, much of which is due to its main characters. Like the vast majority of shonen series in modern times, Jujutsu Kaisen has its own three main characters, they are Yuji Itadori, the protagonist, and two supporting characters in Nobara Kugisaki and Megumi Fushiguro. All three characters are very popular all over the world.

When Jujutsu Kaisen ended in chapter 271 on September 29, 2024, the end of quite a few of these characters was not up to the mark. Then Gege Akutami officially set up a sequel called Jujutsu Kaisen: Modulo68 years after the end of the original story. With the release of Modulo Volume 3 on May 1, 2026, Jujutsu Kaisen explored the official end of all three of its main characters, wrapping up their stories in a satisfying way and paving the way for a new generation to eventually take over.

Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo Volume 3 officially confirms the end of Yuji, Nobara and Megumi Fushiguro

Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo Vol. 3 was officially released in Japan on May 1, 2026. In the US, the release of this volume is still over a year away. Regardless, the contents of JJK Vol. 3 has already been translated, and quite a few exciting details from it have also been revealed to us. When Gege Akutami started writing JJK, he already had the idea in mind to kill off three of his characters. By the end of the series, Gojo Satoru had died, while Yuji, Megumi, and Nobara had all survived. However, things changed drastically Jujutsu Kaisen: Moduloand this trio didn't get the happy ending many expected it to.

“I haven't decided on the final EP though…one of them (Yuji, Megumi, Nobara, Gojo) will die, or just one life, and the others die” — Gege Akutami, Jump Festa 2019

When it comes to Yuji Itadori, he was seen to have lost his purpose in life. Yuji didn't know what to do with his life anymore after seeing one friend die after another. After consuming Death Paintings 4-9, Yuji Itadori's aging slowed down tremendously, and he barely aged compared to everyone else. This is why he cut himself off from society, only to return to help the younger generation at the end of JJK Modulo Volume 3.

“When he absorbed the cursed wombs, he became a hybrid between a curse and a human, causing his aging to slow down to an extreme degree” — Gege Akutami explains Yuji's ageless body in Jujutsu Kaisen: Modulo Volume #3 Notes

Yuji eventually found his true purpose again in Modulo Volume 3 and decided to help create a new world where cursed energy is kept to a minimum and cursed spirits are not born in large numbers anymore. To that end, Yuji also sought help from Nobara Kugisaki, officially reuniting with her in the final Volume of Modulo on May 1, 2026. It has now been officially confirmed that Yuji Itadori and Nobara Kugisaki will work together again to establish a new generation of wizards.

Yuji's goal is simple: he intends to find all the Heavenly Restriction users who will be born after he and Maru together eliminate the cursed energy from the vast majority of the next generation of humans. Meanwhile, Yuji Itadori will mass produce all the powerful Cursed Tools in the Gojo Clan inventory. These Heavenly Restriction users will be trained with these Cursed Tools and given the ability to handle the select few Cursed Spirits that will be born in Tokyo.

When Yuji Itadori dies 300 years later, he hopes that the next generation of wizards will have become self-sufficient and powerful enough to handle these wizards. To that end, Yuji's and Nobara's endings tie together, and the two will work together from here on in the future.

“I will live for another 300 years or so. I will deal with everything that follows. And if necessary, I will bear the consequences of this great sin” — Yuji Itadori, Jujutsu Kaisen: Modulo Chapter #22

Megumi Fushiguro died at an unknown point after the events in Shinjuku

While Yuji and Nobara's endings are pretty clear, Megumi's ending is quite unsatisfying and disappointing. Megumi Fushiguro did not appear at all in Jujutsu Kaisen: Modulo Volume #3. The only mention came from Yuji Itadori in Chapter 25, which marked the end of the entire volume. In this particular chapter, it was clear that Yuji missed the presence of Megumi Fushiguro. In other words, Megumi has already died. The circumstances surrounding his death are still unclear at this time, but considering that a lot of time has passed since the events of Shinjuku Shodown, we can only assume that this was a death of natural causes.

Nobara: Who even knows how to become a cursed object?

Yuji: That's why I say we should all look for a way together.

Nobara: If only Fushiguro was here at a time like this.

— Conversation between Yuji and Nobara hinting at Megumi Fushiguro's death, Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo Volume #3

This also explains why Yuji was so upset and lost his purpose in life. Having seen some of his best friends, including Megumi Fushiguro, die in front of him would have been traumatic for him, and he didn't know how to deal with such a loss. Thankfully, Megumi's memory lives on within Yuji Itadori, and his testament will be kept alive for many years to come.

While Jujutsu Kaisen concluded the stories of their main trio in Modulo Chapter 25, which was officially released on March 8, 2026, and finally released in volume form on May 1, 2026. These endings can still be expanded if Gege Akutami so desires. At the end of the serialization of JJK Modulo in Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump magazine, the editor's note officially confirmed that both Gege Akutami and Yuji Iwasaki are looking forward to continue working as mangaka.

“Please look forward to the next works by Gege Akutami and Yuji Iwasaki. Thank you!” — Editor's note at the end of Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo Chapter #25

While it was unclear which series they would tackle next, the possibility of them returning to Jujutsu Kaisen once again still exists. This is because Yuji Itadori officially set in motion a plan that would have him raise the next generation of wizards in a world where the humans cooperate with the Rumelians. Much research into alien technology is being conducted. Meanwhile, the most exciting plot point was set up at the end of JJK Modulo Volume 3, when Yuji Itadori mentioned that he will turn himself into a cursed object, similar to Ryomen Sukuna.

Yuji wants to turn himself into a finger, and in the future, if it ever goes wrong, he wants to be entertained by who would probably be the next main character. Then, just as Sukuna was reincarnated at the beginning of Jujutsu Kaisen, Yuji will do the same. This brings the whole story full circle and marks the perfect end to Yuji Itadori's life. It's something that we absolutely can't wait to see if the author intends to explore it.
