Insomniac's Jump from Spider-Man to Wolverine can be messy

Insomniacs Marvel's Spider-Man franchise has bounced around between different themes and properties that have helped shape its tone and characters. Not unlike in Into the spider-verse and Across the spider-verseInsomniac's Miles Morales struggles to actually define himself outside of being Spider-Man. Marvel's Spider-Man's Miles, however, seems to have decided to study music technology, which is puzzling when he and Peter Parker are both unfathomably good when it comes to science and technology in general.

Unless something is announced, disclosed and released in the meantime, Marvel's Wolverine is next on Insomniac's schedule. If Marvel's Wolverine will feel strong compared to Marvel's Spider-Man aside from obviously not swinging online, it will be about how Wolverine deals with common conundrums. Peter and Miles – not to mention several side characters or antagonists in their lives – are outrageously brilliant and rely on knowledge of science for investigative mini-game activities, while Logan will probably be left to superhuman instincts and senses when tracking or exploring environments.

Marvel's Wolverine must capture an aspect of Logan That Deadpool and Wolverine Nailed

Marvel's Wolverine will portray one of the most compelling characters in Marvel in Logan and must embrace some of his characterization.

Marvel's Wolverine is unlikely to resemble Marvel's Spider-Man

Marvel's Wolverine Adapting Logan's superhuman senses wouldn't be the most immersive way to integrate a Detective Mode scan of nearby enemies and interactables as Insomniac could lean on the idea that he lived among wolves and later trained elsewhere to become a skilled hunter. The question here is how this would take Marvel's Spider-Man and transition similar traits into simple mutant abilities Wolverine just happens to have.

The
Marvel's Spider-Man
franchise has a Detective Mode scan feature (which can be triggered during the trap sequence under Li's office without a mask on, meaning it's not an immersive mask lens feature) and its science-related mini-game puzzles aren't all challenging, but Peter and Miles are much more delightful when they using their brains to solve problems rather than relying solely on their overwhelmed Spidey mind.

The canon is not short of brilliant minds, but whatever Marvel's Wolverine takes place in Marvel's Spider-Mans universe, it will be a completely different perspective now that you see through the lens of a character who is not usually depicted as someone whose clever abilities get him through difficult situations. Rather, Marvel's Wolverine could possibly end up taking more inspiration from a game that The God of War whose protagonist is a muscle-bound brawler and that would be entirely fair given that Wolverine has nothing in common with characters as physically athletic or intellectually gifted as Peter or Miles.

How Marvel's Wolverine possibly lacks a scientific element could affect Insomniac's game formula

In many ways, Marvel's Wolverine is simultaneously the best and worst title Insomniac could have chosen to co-develop with Marvel's Spider-Man because of how opposite they will certainly be in terms of gameplay. It's wise because it can't possibly play similarly and can hopefully exemplify Insomniac's range as a developer, though it's also unwise because Marvel's Wolverine will inevitably have to rely on combat as its mainstay.

It's impossible to imagine that someone used to letting their adamantium claws do the talking and spending time fiddling with a gadget or mini-game and removing science from the equation will no doubt be alarming. If nothing else, this will be a testament to Insomniac's creativity to see how smoothly it can take Wolverine's abilities and apply them to gameplay mechanics meant to fill a feature-length game. Sleepless sticking so closely to his own formulas makes it hard to discern what the moment-to-moment gameplay might look like in Marvel's Wolverineat least apart from what has unfortunately been leaked publicly and willfully.

But if there's any studio that can pull off this task, it's surely Insomniac given the phenomenal work ethic, attention to detail, and level of quality it has demonstrated. Insomniac probably wouldn't have taken the plunge Marvel's Wolverine if it didn't have a solid concept of how it would translate many of its recurring gameplay features and lore, and it will be great to see what it actually looks like when the developer is good and ready to share something official.
