How to make it rain in Pokemon Legends: ZA

As you explore the town of Luimose i Pokemon Legends: ZAyou may have noticed that the weather changes periodically, and if you're lucky, you may even have seen a rainbow over Lumiose every now and then. Like other Pokémon games, weather changes in Legends: ZA aren't just for show.

Many Pokemon in Pokemon Legends: ZA will only appear in certain weather conditions, much like how some only appear during the day or night. In addition to weather being a requirement for some spawns, some Pokemon, like Sliggoo, also require certain weather conditions to evolve, so it's important to know how to restore the weather when you need to.

How to change the weather

The trainer posed with a thumbs up in front of a bright sun in Pokemon Legends: ZA.

While it would be nice to be able to select a weather option and have it happen on command, it's unfortunately not an option. But although it is sad, you can trigger a weather change at any time until you get the weather you are looking for.

To do this is all you need to do approach any bench in Pokemon Legends: ZA and select the option to “kill some time here” as this then fast-forwards to either day or night, depending on which one you're on.

If you're having trouble finding a bench, as they seem to be everywhere until you actually need one, you can fast travel to any Pokemon Center. Each Pokemon Center has a single bench outside which you can use to kill time.

There is six different weather conditions you can encounterand you should be able to see which one you will have when the transition from night to day occurs. The different weather conditions you may experience are listed below:

Weather

Description

Clear Skies icon in Pokemon Legends_ ZA.

Clear sky

This is most common weather conditions in Lumiose, where the sun shines brightly over the city.

Intense sun icon in Pokemon Legends_ ZA.

Intense sun

This is one you also occasionally see during certain points of the day. It's mostly the same as clear skies, but with more intense sunlight.

Cloudy icon in Pokemon Legends_ ZA.

Cloudy

This weather conditions consist of large dark clouds over the sky of Lumiose, but no rain.

Rain icon in Pokemon Legends_ ZA.

Rain

Rain can be a little hard to see while it's happening, but it overall gloomy appearance of the city can help you realize that it is about to rain.

Foggy icon in Pokemon Legends_ ZA.

Fog

As the most oddly disturbing weather condition of the bunch, fog is easy to recognize as you will see it covering the streets in Lumiose.

Rainbow weather icon in Pokemon Legends: ZA.

Rainbow

Similar to clear sky, except you will see a rainbow over the city if you look up.

To check the weather anytime, open the map and look in the upper right corner for the small weather icon. If you skip days, keep that in mind some weather conditions, such as rain and fog, only occur for a small part of the day. Therefore, it might honestly be best if you just kept an eye on the weather while doing other tasks in Lumiose, rather than skipping days to trigger a weather change.

If you find the weather changing to what you need, go ahead and save so you can back out and restart if you miss out on catching the Pokemon you need during that weather.

Pokemon spawns that change based on weather

An Alpha Goomy was alerted in Pokemon Legends: ZA.

As mentioned, there are several Pokemon you won't be able to find unless the right weather conditions are met. For the most part, the majority of weather conditions will not affect the spawn rate, but clear skies and rain will. For a complete list of Pokemon that only spawn in certain weather conditionssee the table below:

Weather

Pokemon Spawns

Clear skies or intense sun

  • Riolu

  • Helioptile

  • Eevee

  • Skarmory— Will also spawn in Cloudy

Rain

  • Goomy – only near water bodies.

  • Sliggoo — near water courses only.

Of course, there are other Pokemon that only spawn in specific weather conditions, but they are not currently in Pokemon Legends: ZA and therefore have no relevance here.

How to evolve Sliggoo into Goodra during rainy weather

Trainers posed next to a happy Goodra in Pokemon Legends: ZA.

At this time, the only Pokemon that requires a certain weather condition to evolve is Sliggoo. To evolve Sliggoo into Goodra, you need to raise Sliggoo to level 50 and then wait for it to start raining. As mentioned, you can trigger a change in weather by resting on benches, but be careful.

Weather conditions run out pretty quickly, so if you don't want to waste your time, then make sure you already have a Sliggoo leveled up and ready to evolve before you start skipping days to change the weather. When you notice it's raining, make sure Sliggoo is in your party and you should see the opportunity to evolve.
