The Zombie Parts system in Dead Island 2 is an incredibly sick mechanic with some really interesting concepts. Basically, at a certain point in the game, players will unlock the ability to use different mutations in different zombies to create specific Autophage Perks and Skills for weapons. To do this, you must collect all kinds of anatomical nightmares from oversized arm bones to electrified brains, mutated hearts and even infected flesh.

Upcoming zombie games that people are excited about
Zombies have been a staple of horror for decades, and they're not leaving the world of video games anytime soon.
All of these parts have different chances to drop from different zombie types. For example, Electrified Brains can only drop from Voltaic Screamers, but most zombies in Dead Island 2 can drop Infected Flesh. So let's go over exactly what this part is, what it's used for, and where it can be obtained.
Updated November 2, 2024 by Jacob Buchalter: Despite the many DLC expansions for Dead Island 2 including the Haus DLC and the SoLA DLC, not much has changed with how to collect Infected Flesh or what it's used for. Of course, there are more areas to get it from now on with these DLCs, but the process is still the same and the recipes it's used in are primarily the same as well. Still, with all that said, let's take a quick look over all the information provided here and make sure you know everything you need to know about Infected Flesh in Dead Island 2.
Explanation of “Materials” for infected meat
Where to find it in the game
Dead Island 2 has 5 different rarity types for its items and equipment; Common, Unusual, Rare, Superior, and Legendary. While only weapons can go up to Legendaryeverything else has an assigned Rarity, and Zombie Parts is no different.
While it's true that Infected Flesh can drop from these 14 different zombie types:
- Hiker
- Spiky Walkers
- Shocking Walkers
- Swarm walker
- Grenadier Walkers
- Burning walker
- Fireman Walkers
- Caustic-X Walkers
- Hazmat Walkers
- Burning Walkers
- Riot Gear Walkers
- Hydration Walkers
- Shambles
- Bursters
There is no real “method” to farming Infected Flesh other than killing a bunch of these zombie types. Infected meat is a common resourcewhich makes sense given how many sources you have to get it from, but that doesn't mean it's necessarily “easy” to get. Unlike Oversized Arm Bones, you can't break a Walker's arms to make them lose flesh more easily.
So for anyone looking this up trying to see if there is a “faster” way to complete the first step of Francesca's Body art Side Quest in Beverly Hills, unfortunately does not exist. Instead, it's easier to just accept this Quest and leave it alone or attach the Autophage Perk recipe that uses Infected Flesh and then just keep playing the game without worrying about it. Because as long as you keep an eye on Zombie Part drops in general (and don't avoid combat as a whole), you'll steadily get a sizable crowd of Infected Flesh over time.
Infected meat
Overall purpose and use of this material
Infected meat really only has one “purpose”it is one of the basic crafting materials used for many of the various Autophage Perks for both melee and ranged weapons. Beyond this, Infected Flesh isn't worth much else. It doesn't sell for much, it can't be “used” elsewhere, and you only need about 10 piles of meat for a specific step in a Side Quest.
Despite all this, you still want to build up a big pile of Infected Flesh if you cansimply because of how often you're likely to mess with Autophage Weapon Mods. Just to give a clearer picture of how many blueprints this resource is used in:
Blueprint name |
Number of infected meat needed |
---|---|

To build one of all the Blueprints listed above, you would need almost a full stack of 99 pieces of meat (78, to be more precise). And, let's be honest, you're not going to use each blueprint just once for a weapon, so multiply this number by another 2, 3, or even 4 times. All of this is to prove that Infected Flesh is a fairly common material, so you'll want a lot of it.
